Role Purpose
We are looking for a Senior Research Analyst to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables team in the United States. The Power and Renewables research team is a highly respected group of analysts producing market-leading research on the entire renewable energy value chain. Our cutting-edge knowledge of wind power supply chains, costs, deployments, and investment trends further strengthens Wood Mackenzie's offerings in the market during this rapidly changing time in the energy sector.
The Senior Analyst is responsible for analysis of the North American wind power market, which includes the U.S. and Canada. As the regional thought leader, he/she will be the internal and external point of contact for wind power in North America. Key responsibilities of the role will include writing reports, aggregating and summarizing project-level datasets, communicating with key industry stakeholders, tracking North America wind market activity and forecasting installation volumes and pricing trends.
The Senior Analyst will work closely with the North American research analyst and his/her line manager, to ensure the timely and accurate provision of all relevant data.
The Senior Analyst is expected to conduct original quantitative and qualitative research on the market and deliver analysis through written reports, public speaking, addressing customer inquiries and custom research engagements and/or consulting projects. He/ she is also expected to correspond with, present to, and advise if necessary main stakeholders within the North American wind industry on analysis regarding the wind power landscape and general market dynamics.
Main Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain relevant wind data for the region by conducting primary and secondary desk research on wind power in North America, including market dynamics, business models, market developments and financial strategies. Primary research includes direct engagement with industry stakeholders through interviews, surveys, and industry events to gather first-hand insights. Direct industry engagement and relationship building with key market participants is a critical component of this role.
- Own and be the project lead on regional and global research products such as: North America wind power outlook, Quarterly market outlook updates, Long-term outlooks, OEM market share, Global policy tracker and wind ownership rankings.
- Contribute to the global quarterly wind power market outlook by producing an annual installation forecast for the U.S. and Canada over a 10-year period
- Liaise on an ongoing basis with the Research Analysts and the broader Power & Renewables team to ensure the timely and accurate provision of all relevant data, analyses and forecasts for all research publications
- Collaborate closely with analysts across the broader Power & Renewables team, including solar, storage, power, hydrogen, and other technology specialists, to ensure our views and outlooks are aligned across technologies and consistent with overall market capacity and dynamics
- Collaborate with the Power team to align the forecast methodology and wind power inputs for the LTO (long-term outlook)
- Support global LCoE research efforts with input from the North American wind market
- Support the WM offshore wind team with insights and data on the U.S. offshore wind market
- Originate, lead and write brief and timely insights regarding new market trends, strategies and other developments across the North American wind industry
- Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the North American wind sector
- Support specific consulting assignments related to wind power in North America as needed
- Support organic business development and sales
About You
You have an analytical mindset and an eye for detail, which has been proven in your work experience to date; therefore, you are comfortable taking complex, disparate ideas and distilling them into simple, provocative concepts.
You are a natural self-starter who can work independently and generate the ideas you want to share by leveraging and expanding your industry network. You are comfortable disrupting your routine as you will be constantly looking to learn and provide in-depth analysis on industry trends and innovative market dynamics.
- Proven experience in the wind energy sector or related field
- Experience with market forecasting and modelling, with comfort in presenting and defending analytical views even when dealing with incomplete or evolving market information
- Experience and interest in leveraging AI tools and technologies to optimise research processes and analytical capabilities
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to distil complex ideas into simple, provocative concepts
- Comfortable presenting to public audiences and interacting with executives
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Intellectual curiosity and passion for the renewable energy industry
- Advanced proficiency in data management and modelling
- Master's degree in a relevant field preferred
