About the opportunity

The Charles Perkins Centre, the University of Sydney’s flagship multidisciplinary initiative (MDI) within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, has a short-term opportunity for an experienced and skilled Communications Assistant to join our small, supportive, busy and high-achieving team.

As the Project Officer, you will report to the Communications Manager, working to ensure the day-to-day management of Charles Perkins Centre’s communications operate effectively for our members. You will have the opportunity to support the planning, production and continuous optimisation of communications content across the Centre.

This role combines strong administrative, project, and communications support to ensure effective service delivery, stakeholder engagement, and process improvements. You’ll work across teams to enhance transparency, efficiency, and collaboration, making a direct impact on both internal and external audiences.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work closely with the Centre’s colleagues and internal and external stakeholders to support operational, project, and communications-based work

  • develop and implement clear, targeted communications including newsletters, team updates, and stakeholder emails to keep audiences informed and engaged

  • maintain and update web‑based content via CMS/AEM, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and up-to-date

  • coordinate workflows, communications calendars and project milestones

  • monitor and respond to stakeholder queries across email and intranet channels, escalating issues or resolving them promptly

About you

  • experience in the higher education sector or within a large, complex multifaceted, experience at the University of Sydney would be very highly regarded

  • demonstrated experience engaging with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders

  • track record developing clear and engaging communications such as newsletters, web content, and internal updates

  • proficient in content management systems; experience using Adobe Experience Manager, Swift Digital and Marq (desirable)

  • strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks like project coordination and communication delivery

  • a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience in communications, administration, or project coordination.
