NSF is looking for a Scientist I who can support the LCMS group by managing lab supplies, coordinating equipment calibration, and assisting with data and sample preparation tasks. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established processes to ensure smooth lab operations and compliance.

  • Collect waster solvents from each work station and send waster solvents or waster to the storage room no more than once a week.
  • Be an ordering point person for the group to purchase the necessary supplies to support the group operation. We have Sascha to help with this task. (not a daily task)
  • Manage the LCMS group supply inventory (not a daily task) – Follow our existing inventory and ordering process using excel, determining how much should be ordered and when the ordering should be triggered. Complete quarterly chemical inventory consolidation on time. This is to ensure that we do not run out of essential lab supplies because they will be checked regularly decreasing our chances of missing something that is getting low. 
  • Coordinate with the calibration lab for thermometers, balance, pipette calibration. Maintain records in Qualer. 
  • Perform quarterly the Pipette verification, maintain records of pipette verification in Qualer and LCMS folder, keep track of upcoming verifications and calibrations through Qualer notification system and make sure that none go late.  
  • Perform extractions as needed by following SOPs to support general LCMS work. This is only 5% of your time. 
  • Perform the preparation of a series of calibration standards for generating a calibration curve and perform sample preparation. (This task is performed based on time availability) 
  • Get trained and perform data peer review. (not daily. The schedule is flexible)
  • Perform data entry into Beaker if needed. (Rare. Most of our data entry is DDD.)
  • Get trained by the senior staff on how to operate the LCMS system and how to perform troubleshooting. 
  • Get trained and have the judgment skills to independently perform tests alone including LCMS (Waters and Thermo) runs, results of data writeup, data review and DDD to support standard 60/61 and/or DWTS.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related science field, or an equivalent combination of experience and coursework
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in an analytical testing laboratory
  • Knowledge of standard analytical lab procedures with some instrumentation experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a production team environment with strong organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to organize work and maintain workflow independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with applicable laboratory methods
