The HSE Advisor is responsible for supporting health, safety, and environmental initiatives across drilling operations on the North Slope. This role ensures compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while promoting a proactive safety culture in a remote and challenging environment.
Remote North Slope location with rotational schedule (14x14 or 21x21; subject to change).
If you reside out of state, you are responsible for your own travel to and from Anchorage, Alaska. The company will cover the cost of travel to and from Anchorage to the North Slope.
- Promote and assist all employees in building and engaging in a proactive safety culture.
- Support management in communicating, implementing, and clarifying federal and state regulations, HSE/QMS programs, policies, and training requirements.
- Assist facility site leadership with HSE inspections, checklists, audits, and behavior-based safety compliance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs including but not limited to:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Fall Protection
- Safety Equipment
- Best Practices
- Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Work Permits
- Completion of open items in the Drill Site Action Item Log (DSAIL)
- Observe and mentor employees performing critical and instructional job tasks, evaluating performance and effectiveness using Best Practices, STAR, SOCs, Near Misses, JSAs, and safety tools.
- Intervene and stop work when necessary to clarify or correct procedures or recommended practices.
- Assist operations management in conducting investigations and developing reports for Near Misses, Incidents, Field Safety Assessments (FSAs), and Facility Action Plans (FAPs).
- Support environmental audits and assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Record corrective actions resulting from investigations, checklists, and audits in the DSAIL system.
- Communicate rig-specific DSAIL updates to the Drilling Superintendent and HSE Supervisor.
- Ensure site safety and provide support for emergency response activities.
- Act as a company liaison and representative in interactions with contractors and customer employees.
- Provide on-site training and competency evaluations to assist operations management with policy and procedure clarification, including LOTO and Best Practices.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar position or industry.
- Commitment to working safely and participating in all HSE programs.
- Strong desire to promote a healthy, incident-free workplace.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both upper management and field personnel to ensure clear understanding of HSE guidelines, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.
- Knowledge and skills in Windows-based computer systems.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common reports.
- Systematic and disciplined approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
Preferred:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a similar position or industry.
- College or Associate’s degree or technical equivalent in Safety or Environmental studies.
- Completion of industry and/or regulatory courses, certifications, and training.
- Previous safety or environmental experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental policies and practices specific to the oil and gas sector.
- Remote North Slope location with rotational schedule (14x14 or 21x21; subject to change).
- Exposure to extreme cold, snow, and ice.
- Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.
- Housing and transportation provided during rotation.
- Note: If you reside out of state, you are responsible for your own travel to and from Anchorage, Alaska. The company will cover the cost of travel from Anchorage to the North Slope.
