Reporting to Geotechnical Engineer, this entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to build a career in Geotechnical Engineering to support the planning, execution, and documentation of geotechnical site investigations for the Lumwana Expansion Project. 

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Assist with field investigations including borehole logging, test pit logging, and sampling.
  • Support in-situ testing operations such as Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP), tube sampling and Dynamic Probe Super Heavy Testing (DPSH).
  • Observe and record drilling activities in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., BS, AS).
  • Collect and label soil and rock samples for laboratory testing.
  • Assist with site reconnaissance and geotechnical mapping activities.
  • Prepare daily field logs, drilling reports, and maintain proper data records.
  • Support senior Engineers and Geologists in the analysis and interpretation of field data.
  • Adhere to all HSE requirements and site protocols.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology or related field.
  • Interest in field work and site-based activities under varying environmental conditions.
  • Basic understanding of soil and rock classification and geotechnical testing methods.
  • Registered, or eligible to register, as a Professional of EIZ.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Experience with 3D modeling software, geological database software, mapping software, and planning software. Vulcan / Leapfrog, AcQuire, ArcGIS and Krux experience would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with engineering and production personnel.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced production environment.
