Position Purpose
The Education Liaison position is a newly developed position designed to help Club members overcome learning loss, strengthen their school connection, and, overall, to improve the educational outcomes of the Clubhouse.
The Education Liaison is in charge of overseeing the academic performance and school participation of all members of the Clubhouse. As well, this position, in coordination with the Clubhouse Director, Assistant Clubhouse Director, and Education Director, is in charge of ensuring that the Clubhouse has strong academic programs for members of all ages.
The Education Liaison works outside of ratios and does not have a department they manage. Every week, the Education Liaison will review the academic performance and school participation of regular members of all ages, communicate with Clubhouse staff about the needs of particular youth, collaborate with school leaders and teachers, meet with parents and guardians - alongside other staff, and monitor PowerHour. As well, the Education Liaison will work with Clubhouse leadership, Citywide Director of Education, and agency leadership to implement educational partnerships that positively impact learning and school connection.
This is a full time exempt position supporting our Don Fisher Clubhouse.
Key Relationships
- Internal: Clubhouse Director, Assistant Clubhouse Director [excluding Visitacion Valley and Sunnydale], Education Director, Citywide Director of Education, and other Education Liaisons.
- External: Maintain contact with school administrators and teachers, parents or guardians, education program partners, and Behavioral Health Services staff.
Responsibilities
Academic Oversight – 40%
- Monitors and analyzes academic performance and school connections for Club members, assesses grades, school attendance, key relationships, and determines the additional support needed for all regular members. (One important goal is to identify and troubleshoot needs before more significant challenges arise.)
- Determines and provides the same support needed for those core members who are not regularly attending during the current trimester but will return to the Club as the year progresses.
Liaise with School Administrators and Teachers – 25%
- Communicate regularly with school administrators and teachers - with a primary focus on the schools with the highest number of Clubhouse youth - to ensure the free flow of information between the Club and schools about the individual needs of Club members.
- Troubleshoot academic challenges as they are identified, with the school’s support, using Clubhouse resources.
Observe, Coach, and Collaborate With Clubhouse Department Directors – 20%
- Work in conjunction with the Clubhouse Director and Assistant Clubhouse Director [excluding Visitacion Valley & Sunnydale], observe PowerHour activities and educational programs, coach and lead discussions at staff meetings, and work one-on-one with key Department Directors.
Implement, Support, and Oversee Education Partnerships – 15%
- Work collaboratively with the Citywide Director of Education to identify, implement, and analyze potential new partnerships.
- Work with the Citywide Director of Education to implement, support, and oversee education partnerships designed to support learning-loss recovery and school connection. This includes monitoring programs across the Clubhouse and managing the Clubhouse’s relationship with the partner.
- Co-manage the Clubhouse’s tutoring dollars, with the Clubhouse Director, High School Services Director, Middle School Services Director, and Education Director.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Outcome Measurement, Citywide Director of Education, and the Clubhouse Director to measure program outcomes.
Requirements
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Four years or more of experience working with at-risk youth; must have cultural competency.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, analyze, assess, and communicate the academic needs of youth.
- Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, and delegation.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- A passion for the mission and values of BGCSF.
- Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
Preferred Skills
- Three years of experience working in schools or nonprofits, focusing on learning/academic skill attainment and/or school connection.
- Experience liaising with school leadership and teachers, either by working in schools or working closely with schools.
- Understand and appreciate the field of Youth Development and how to use a “whole-child” approach to stem learning loss, improve school connection, and support the social emotional wellness of Club members.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
- Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Pay
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $68,00.00 - $70,000.00 annually.
