Job Description Summary

The position is proposed in GE Vernova’s gas turbine platforms, Mechanical CoE – Structures, department who is responsible for the execution of projects and development initiatives with a wide scope and a high impact activities around Enclosures, Accessories Modules & Mechanical Equipment : Enclosures for Gas/Steam Turbine and generator, off-bases Fluids modules, Starting Means, Load Gear, Maintenance tools for gas turbine rotor removal, Foundations, Base frame, Painting, etc.

The Mechanical CoE Steam Turbines Enclosures owner owns mainly critical ST (Steam Turbine) enclosure equipment and its thermal insulation for GE Vernova’ turbine frames. This is a cross-functional role with ownership of equipment on typical new unit order to manage the execution of technical design & engineering tasks.
The role will owns:
• Activities contributing to the design and development of these products, solutions and systems.
• Coordinates and manages the execution of design tasks for project-specific drawings, specifications and BOMs to deliver on-time with expected high quality level.
• Proposal or/and implementation of improvement of existing products, as well as for New Product Introduction (NPI) to deliver on-time with expected high quality level.
• Projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working.
• Quality, efficiency and effectiveness of its owned scope of work.
• Input into Strategy.
• Guided by GE Vernova design practices and state of the art policies.
• Strong autonomy, requiring strong level of judgment

It requires strong skill in communication and reporting for activity follow-up with management and Principal Engineers.
The role partners with Heating & Ventilation, Hazardous Gas Protection, PFL (Product Fulfilment Leader), GT-PE (Gas Turbine Project Engineer), Electrical & Instrumentation, piping, Drafting, Sourcing, Sourcing Quality, Configuration Management, and Customer Service to provide ownership for the product lifecycle from new product development to commercial operation in the field.
He will also coordinate with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, customers & suppliers during project execution phase.
All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers are delivered with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user’s needs.
In addition to Steam Turbine enclosures and its insulation, depending on work load, he could have to support Gas Turbine Enclosures activity.

Job Description

The role will be responsible for Requisition and New product Introduction to:

  • Execute and ensure the design is per applicable rules, regulations codes and standards, respective GE Vernova’s rules, design practice/work instruction, contractual requirement and per good engineering practices especially about safety, health and environmental aspects of site personal, operators, maintenance personnel and third parties. This work includes mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products.
  • Support team members to develop detailed system & hardware design with component specifications & detailed drawings, engineering calculations & analyses to size system components.
  • Coordinate and manage the execution of design tasks for drawing/BOMs, to deliver on time with expected high quality level.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area interacts with others.
  • Contributes (proposal) to strategy and policy development with CTH.
  • Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
  • Uses internal and external sources outside of own function to support/arrive at decisions.
  • Collaborate with Cost out leaders and with Continuous Improvement leaders

  • Drive lean action to improve work processes, standard works and harmonized work processes between 50 & 60Hz within its scope of work.
  • Ensure team is trained on key processes and has access to process documentation.
  • Carry out all activities related to the purchase of equipment designed by a third party / supplier based on both Built-to-Specs, Built-to-Prints and Built-to-Models concepts, carrying out document review and releasing the information for further internal use, performing technical review.
  • Prepare design concepts and perform basic design, system and equipment engineering for GT/ST/Generator enclosures
  • Solve issues such as SAFER, PAC, SN, SDR, NCN, NCR, ERS and ensure implementation of corrective actions and CTH approval in support to PSL. Perform read across to ensure real-time corrective action implementation.
  • Facilitates the design and implementation of all components and systems that are auxiliaries to the main product such as piping, valves, tubes, fluid delivery and removal (fuel, lube, hydraulics), pumps, actuators, tooling, etc.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Lead projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.
  • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
  • Solve issues with safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Perform read across to ensure real-time corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure equipment maintainability and accessibility by appropriate arrangement interfacing with PDE & supplier for 3D model review, witnessing function and performance tests at supplier site.
  • Participate to HAZOP-studies, hazard assessment and design reviews and ensure that corrective actions are closed on time.
  • Support CTH & TL to ensure on-time RCA closure, if needed interacting openly with customers to get agreement on proposed solution, proper feedback, and improvement actions to be implemented within documentation and with suppliers / manufacturers.
  • Prepares design concepts for system and equipment on GT/ST/Generator enclosures.
  • Supporting erection and commissioning activities and claim negotiation.

(Standard, NPI, REQ-NPI activity)

  • Collaborate to ensure standard product (GBOM) structure is in place and standard designs are maintained to improve the GE-Vernova offering’s competitiveness.
  • Provide proposals for design improvement and cost reduction to improve competitiveness of GE Vernova offered equipment & design.
  • Contribute towards strategy and product development.
  • Contributes to introduce new technology/innovations into the technical design.
  • Prepare or support design documents & databases (e.g. system design practices, system application guidelines, system descriptions / GEKs, OTR standard documentation / templates, standard work, GBOM parts, AVEVA reference, device summary etc.) based on lessons learned of ongoing projects and site feedback.
  • Maintain operational rigor to deliver under NPI, Requisition and RTS spend.

(Transverse work)

  • Provide technical guidance to support ITO team for cost & cycle estimates.
  • With support of Platform Leaders, improve standards based with site installation/commissioning feedback.
  • Align with Sourcing & Supplier Quality team to develop new suppliers.
  • Collaborate with supplier and Sourcing Quality team to ensure excellent quality of products delivered to customer.

Required Qualifications

  • Engineer in Mechanical Engineering, Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering, equivalent degree OR masters from well recognized university.
  • Minimum of 4 years of design engineering and/or New Unit project execution experience with power generation, or turbines accessories.
  • Design know-how of GT/ST/Generator accessories mechanical systems such as Enclosures.
  • Know and apply design methods, rules and tools to specify the systems/ components

    • Specific Knowledge about the relevant codes and standards like ANSI, ASME, ASHRE, EN, OSHA etc.
    • Knowledge of Interfaces specially on Heating & Ventilation, firefighting, controls systems & electrical interfaces
