About the role
Techno is seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join a major transportation infrastructure redevelopment project in Queens, NY. In this role, you will play a key part in promoting a culture of safety across all phases of construction, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as project-specific safety requirements. This is a high-visibility role ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and has a passion for proactive risk mitigation.
What you'll do
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure strict adherence to site-specific health and safety plans, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, site inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead on-site safety meetings and toolbox talks to promote awareness, accountability, and safe work practices among field personnel and contractors.
- Coordinate incident investigations, ensuring accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation including safety logs, inspection reports, training records, and incident reports for compliance and auditing purposes.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of project-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and emergency response procedures.
- Collaborate with project management, contractors, and union representatives to ensure alignment on safety protocols and standards.
- Assist with onboarding and orientation of field staff and subcontractors, providing safety training and ensuring familiarity with site-specific procedures.
- Stay current with evolving safety standards, tools, and technologies, and advise leadership on improvements to safety performance.
- Serve as a visible and approachable safety resource on-site, promoting a strong safety culture and leading by example.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety, with a strong understanding of large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects.
- NYC DOB Site Safety Supervisor Card (SST) is required; additional safety certifications (e.g., CHSO, CSP, CHST) are a plus.
- Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with unionized labor and public-sector construction work is preferred.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and take decisive action in emergency situations.

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $55 - $69.50 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
