Position Summary

Establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients and helps patients with daily living. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit. Takes vital signs, weighs patients and collects routine specimens. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor. High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of related experience. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

 

Qualifications/Experience

Education: 

Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

 

Experience: 

One year of related experience.

 

Other Skills:

 

Licenses/Certificate:

CPR certification.

 

Essential Job Functions

Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of SARH.

Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and SARH.

Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action.

Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Demonstrates knowledge of the psychiatric care process.

Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the identification of sensorium changes.

Makes rounds as indicated on all patients and documents on observational flow sheet.

Assists patients who may be experiencing crisis or who are out of control.

Straightens patients day areas, tidies activity room and patient rooms.

Attends in-service meetings and unit meetings, as scheduled.

Processes physician’s orders, and nursing instructions per protocol.

Processes data for charts, includes data from other departments, add chart forms.

Answers phone and processes data received per phone.

Assists with admission and discharge of patients.

Records factual data obtained in admission of patient vital signs, personal hygiene, ambulation and routine care of patient.

Assists with CPR as needed.

Responds immediately and appropriately to inquiries, requests and patient call lights.

Maintain knowledge of patients whereabouts

Provide transportation services a required.

Maintains a clean, organized environment; helps with inventory of supplies and equipment.

Has current CPR certification.

Performs approved technical skills after training with demonstrated competency documented on file.

Delivers and picks up items from other departments; interacts with all ancillary departments.

Performs tasks as assigned.
