Minnesota Connections Academy (MNCA) is a tuition-free, online public charter school for students in grades K-12 throughout Minnesota. MNCA is a member of the Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTCS), a K-12 academic community. MNCA is a state-approved online program operated through a contract with Connections Academy of Minnesota, LLC, to provide the educational program and other services. MNCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED. MNCA also partners with Pearson Virtual Schools to enhance curriculum and instruction.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Working remotely from your home office, the School Administrator - Attendance and Engagement Lead leads MNCA processes for student attendance and engagement, including the existing MNCA truancy process and the development of an engagement process for MNCA.
The School Administrator will help manage staff as they consult regularly with students and Learning Coaches, ensuring that each child successfully completes his or her instructional program. The School Administrator is responsible for working with parents, students, support staff, and certified teachers who “virtually” facilitate a home-based student instructional program. The School Administrator will report to and work with the School Leader.
The School Administrator - Attendance and Engagement Lead will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
- Act as an Instructional Leader for the K-12 instructional staff
- Responsible for implementing a K-12 plan to monitor and report attendance concerns internally and truancy both internally and externally, work with stakeholders to develop plans for improved attendance and work completion, work directly with MNCA Assistant Principals and Administrative Assistants to ensure that age-appropriate interventions are used and grade-level responsibilities are completed;
- Work directly with the MNCA Engagement Coalition to develop and implement a K-12 engagement plan that develops student habits and behavior, work with staff to develop and implement strategies to be used with students in the classroom;
- Support students with extra supports in the areas of engagement, work completion, academic honesty, and peer-to-peer relationships; monitor and intervene with developing student behavior trends to remain aware of new and emerging needs at MNCA, respond to escalated concerns to support MNCA Assistant Principals and
- Manager of Counseling;
- Work directly with the MNCA Executive Director to monitor students who have not attended consistently to ensure that state reporting and student withdrawals remain accurate;
- Work with stakeholders to support new and returning off-cohort students, with the support of the MNCA Counseling team, ensure that off-cohort students have individualized plans and ensure that larger efforts tackle factors that lead students to move off-cohort;
- Manage and supervise a team of 12-15 staff, including conducting regular one-on-one meetings, supporting professional development, managing time (ex. Paid-time off requests), collaborating with members of the school leadership team to drive school mission, vision and culture;
- Work collaboratively with MNCA, MTCS, and PVS leadership when appropriate, ensure data tracking leads to proper state reporting;
- Oversee credit recovery efforts, both new and existing, work to develop new plans to support students who need credit recovery support, including investigating alternative methods and plans;
- Support the MNCA School improvement process by helping to lead a MNCA School Improvement Team and by serving on the School Improvement Process Executive Team;
- Assist with the hiring and onboarding process of teachers and staff; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minnesota K-12 Principal licensure required
- Minnesota teacher certification or Minnesota related service certification (social worker, speech language pathologist, etc)
- 5+ years of Educational Leadership Experience
- Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Customer focused approach
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- High degree of flexibility
- Team player with demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well in fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel on occasion for marketing and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)
