Head Lifeguard

Lifeguard Job Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise lifeguards and their duties at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that lifeguards are competent in performing water rescue procedures.
  • Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
  • Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or emergency oxygen, if necessary.
  • Evaluate conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable by taking pool chemical readings and adjusting levels as needed, and logging and reporting maintenance issues to the Aquatic Supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool areas as well as help maintain facility and equipment by setting up for daily operation, spot cleaning during shift, and major clean up at the end of the day.
  • Work at special events and rentals, including evenings and weekends.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and in-service training as directed by the Aquatics Supervisor.

Working hours are Monday through Friday, 4:15 PM – 9:15 pm, Saturday 11:45am-11pm, and Sunday 11:45-8pm (if rentals are scheduled and staff meetings and in-service trainings) minimum of 4 shifts a week. 

Head Lifeguard Qualifications / Skills:

  • Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities, to determine any potential dangers or hazards.
  • Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff.
  • Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions.
  • Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety.
  • Ability to deal with problems and to manage large numbers of part-time staff.
  • Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in high school, high school diploma or equivalent preferred. One year of related experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification up to 6ft, including CPR, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, and Waterpark Skills Certification OR the ability to successfully pass the required classes and training courses The Keller Pointe offers. 
  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification is a plus but not required.
