The Principal Project Engineer leads engineering efforts across a portfolio of distributed solar projects. You’ll guide technical design, manage cross-functional coordination, support permitting and construction, and mentor a team of engineers.
Principal Project Engineer will perform the following duties:
- Lead System Design: Drive detailed solar PV system design for commercial and community-scale projects, including module layouts, single-line diagrams, power studies, wire schedules, and performance models.
- Engineering Execution: Own project engineering tasks from early-stage feasibility through construction-ready plan sets. Coordinate technical deliverables and ensure accuracy, code compliance, and quality.
- Site Analysis & Problem Solving: Conduct and review site assessments, utility infrastructure evaluations, and interconnection studies. Identify technical risks and develop creative solutions to overcome site constraints.
- Interconnection Coordination: Prepare interconnection applications and technical packages. Serve as the primary engineering contact for utility coordination, addressing feedback and requirements.
- Technical Reviews: Review and approve internal and external design packages, including PE-stamped drawings. Ensure engineering consistency, constructability, and alignment with project goals.
- Design Standards & Tools: Contribute to improving design workflows, templates, and tools that support faster, more accurate design delivery. Help maintain a high bar for technical excellence.
- Equipment Evaluation: Recommend and specify key system components (modules, inverters, racking, switchgear, etc.) based on site conditions and performance requirements.
- Construction & Field Support: Provide technical support during construction, including resolving RFIs, reviewing as-built drawings, and ensuring installation matches design intent.
- Proposal Support: Provide technical input on proposals and RFP responses, including conceptual designs, layout studies, and performance estimates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree is required in Mechanical Engineering or Energy Engineering or Electrical Engineering
