Job Description
Your Role
The Assistant Controller is responsible for the financial reporting and oversight of a public Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) and will report to the Controller of the REIT.
You will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the preparation of Quarterly and Annual Reports on Forms 10-Q/K and managing the internal and external review of these documents, including reviewing the tie-out of documents
- Overseeing the preparation of other SEC reporting filings (424B3, 8-Ks, etc.) and managing the internal and external review for these documents
- Maintaining the SEC reporting calendar to inform all parties of deadlines for financial close, NAV reporting, and 10-Q/K reporting
- Monitoring and ensuring timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance in accordance with GAAP including overseeing the completion of quarterly and annual GAAP compliance checklists
- Coordinating expectations, assignments, and deliverables with outside third-party fund administrator
- Overseeing Senior Accountants and performing risk-based review of related work and financial statements on a monthly basis prior to final review performed by Controller
- Liaising with Invesco’s legal and portfolio management teams on relevant SEC filings required and related logistics
- Managing communications with internal and external auditors regarding financial reporting and accounting matters to ensure auditor agreement with company accounting policy decisions and accounting disclosures
- Planning, organizing and executing the build-out and ongoing maintenance of SOX controls and related procedures
- Completing technical accounting research as needed for new investments and disclosures in SEC filings
- Developing and maintaining an excellent working relationship with the portfolio and investment management teams, legal, compliance, fund administration and other business partners
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures, as appropriate, including U.S. GAAP, non-GAAP, and applicable operational policies
- Working with Product Management to answer/provide information for current and prospective investors
- Proactively adding value through continuous process improvement, providing new ideas and improving existing processes
- Other duties, as assigned
- The role is based in Dallas, and is a hybrid role with 3 days per week in the office.
The experience you bring:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in accounting/finance
- Active CPA certification is strongly preferred
- Minimum of six years of related accounting experience
- SEC reporting and real estate industry experience desired; Workiva experience is a plus
- Big 4/public accounting background preferred, Manager level or higher
- Minimum of three years of supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage a staff of highly qualified accountants
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Experience with debt securities is a plus
- Strong technical accounting knowledge is desirable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Team oriented and strong interpersonal skills very important
- A demonstrated reputation for excellence and achievement
