The Transportation Secretary supports the ACES Office of Choice Programs by coordinating and monitoring all aspects of student transportation. This position ensures effective communication between schools, families, and transportation vendors while maintaining up-to-date and accurate transportation data. The ideal candidate is highly organized, responsive, and skilled at problem-solving in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Serve as the point of contact for daily transportation matters between bus vendors, families, school staff, and district transportation offices.
- Maintain thorough, organized, and current records of transportation information for all Choice Programs and both contracted bus companies.
- Log incidents in PowerSchool, file documentation, and copy appropriate parties as required.
- Request and review bus video footage to investigate incidents or reported concerns.
- Review and approve bus stop and address changes in alignment with program and district guidelines.
- Notify parents of changes to bus times and stop locations in a clear and timely manner.
- Use GPS tracking tools to monitor bus routes during morning and afternoon runs, informing schools and families of anticipated delays.
- Respond to concerns from parents and school staff regarding transportation issues, collaborating with vendors to resolve problems efficiently.
- Utilize Parent Square or other district tools to provide families with updates, alerts, and other transportation communications.
- Review and respond daily to late bus requests for Open Choice program students.
- Monitor compliance of transportation accommodations outlined in students’ IEPs or 504 plans in consultation with support teams.
- Collaborate with school leadership, operations, and risk management teams to ensure safety, timeliness, and accountability in transportation logistics.
- Fulfill any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director Technology and Operations.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with a commitment to exceptional customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and manage sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
- Experience working in education, school operations, or student transportation is preferred.
- Familiarity with PowerSchool, GPS software, and mass communication tools such as Parent Square is a plus.
