Position Overview
The Data Center Technician (DCT) is responsible for network monitoring variety of software and hardware services within our data centre infrastructure. The team of DCT’s monitor, operate, and report on environmental equipment, including CRAC units, UPS, generator, dry cooler and fire alarm systems, whilst adhering to the company’s operational procedures.
Essential Job Functions
Work under limited supervision, both independently and within a team environment
Manage multiple one-time and/or ongoing projects
Engaging with customers and providing them with world class customer service
Respond to safety and emergency situations and maintain a safe and secure work environment
Use discretion and judgment in organizing workflow and adapting as priorities are modified due to a changing environment
Frequent contact with external 3rd party contractors and vendors
Duties
Provide 24/7 monitoring and management of the data centre infrastructure, ensuring we not only meet SLAs but exceed them via daily checks, captured on internal systems
Ensure all alarms are monitored continuously through facility systems (PSE/PME/BMS…etc)
Installation of customer racks and any required accessories into customer data halls, in line with customer requirement and Manager, Data Center Technician’s direction
Installation and testing of customer cabling connections, both structured and one-off connections
Installation / replacement of customer hardware in line with the customers direction and requirements
Timely, quality provision of Remote and Intelligent Hands requests
Complete minor works projects as part of Internal Work Orders (IWOs)
Oversee and supervise contractor works within Data halls and MMRs
Ensure that all the shift documentation is completed, legible and accurate
Manage any incidents or escalations through policies and procedures
Proactive coverage of the service desk if required
To provide professional guidance to customers, management and the team in a prompt, courteous and professional manner
Carry out Audits and inspections of customer environments suggesting remedial works in line with best practice.
Supporting Vantage’s clients through delivery of exceptional customer service
Identify opportunities to provide additional services to our clients based on their requirements
Identify opportunities to develop processes to meet business requirements
Support the Manager, Data Center Technicians in delivering services that are essential to the success of the business
Ensure DCT Team manning levels are maintained to meet business SLA’s
Delivery/ support of operation report, management report and customer report
Job Requirements
Experience working in IT related field is preferred
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures related to the communications systems, ticketing systems that are needed to run data centres
HD in IT, Computer Science or related disciplines
May be required to complete formal training in an area of specialty Candidates must possess reliable transportation for reporting to work for shifts, or emergencies
Travel is expected to be less than 5%, occasionally for training purposes
