POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to support production as the representative of Production Planning & Control. The functions of this position include; monitoring work requirements, schedules and existing production constraints; estimating production work at a work center level; working with Production supervision to ensure optimal use of resources; establishing effective work sequences, ordering the required planning information and materials; measuring, posting, and reporting process performance for the area; progressing work, and helping to define best practices and performance standards and improve process performance. Ability to fulfil Planner 1 duties identified in Planner Matrix.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify work order requirements using IMS, Baan, and shop floor input, monitor work order completion in Planning, and expedite as necessary.
- Initiate, prep, estimate and release work orders, ensure their completeness and deliver to manufacturing supervision as per the production schedule
- Order and status material as necessary to meet work order needs. Identify shortages and work with the Warehouse, and Purchasing to resolve shortages.
- Determine priority and sequence for working in-hand work orders using schedule and criticality information from the IMS, material availability, and other constraints, and distribute to foremen according to sequence.
- Regularly monitor, report, and locally post performance by work order and work center, including official progress, and communicate problems and priorities to Planning and Scheduling.
- Resolve outstanding material and information issues preventing close out of work orders near completion.
- Work with Manufacturing Management and Scheduling to determine when work sequence changes are absolutely necessary and to limit sequence changes whenever possible.
- Work with manufacturing management, trades and industrial engineers to determine, document, implement, and standardize best practices by work center, and to improve process performance.
- Develop and maintain accurate budgeting parametric for responsible SWBS.
· Help organize, manage, and control work and improve performance; ongoing.
· Establish and communicate production priorities and report process performance; daily.
· Help document best practices and define performance standards, and improve performance; monthly.
· Clarify work content and schedules and provide feedback from the shop floor to improve production plans; daily.
· Report production area performance and activities to support production, and to seek upper level support when required; weekly.
· Explain the production plan and performance for the work area; occasionally.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory responsibilities.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
- Fundamental knowledge of shipbuilding workflow and production processes.
- Fundamental knowledge of shipyard material management practices.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Good math skills.
- Ability and willingness to work in both office and heavy industrial environments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High School Diploma or GED.
- Working knowledge of computer office applications, including spreadsheet charting and email.
- Basic working knowledge of ERP systems demonstrated either through work experience or valid certification.
- Basic working knowledge of, and experience with production planning practices.
SKILLS:
- Demonstrated strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability and willingness to work in both office and heavy industrial environments.
- Desire in-depth knowledge of shipbuilding workflow, material flow, and production processes.
- Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee’s workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.
