Market Supervision at LSEG is responsible for monitoring all secondary market trading on London Stock Exchange (“LSE”) markets, Turquoise Global Holdings Limited and Turquoise Global Holdings Europe. The purpose of monitoring by Market Supervision is to ensure that trading is orderly and efficient, and in compliance with the Exchange’s rules and to identify activity which may indicate market abuse as outlined in the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Code of Market Conduct and MAR.
The Market Abuse team forms part of Market Supervision and makes an important contribution to the maintenance of orderly markets. It undertakes a range of functions including market abuse analysis - the detection and initial investigation of possible instances of market abuse offences for potential referral to the FCA, and financial crime analysis - the detection and initial investigation of possible instances of financial crime for potential SAR referrals. The purpose of this role is predominantly to assist in the identification and analysis of market abuse, but we are also looking for someone to help develop our data analysis skills – but please note that this is not predominantly a coding role.
Key Responsibilities
• Identification and analysis of potential market abuse/financial crime through secondary markets
• Undertaking detailed analysis of post-trade trading on respective LSEG trading venues
• Helping the team to develop its ability to manipulate and visualise larger data sets
• Raising trading queries with members, presenting cases at team meetings and submission of STORs as necessary
• Identifying new and improved ways to undertake trading data manipulation and analysis, whether that be through BI tools, Excel, or working with the department’s Quantitative Surveillance and Technology team
• Surveillance alert optimisation and development work
• Assisting in keeping the team’s documentation up-to-date. This could include maintaining/updating alert versions (code/logic changes), STOR/financial crime procedures, thresholds etc

Key skills, experience and knowledge required
Experience of:
• working with large datasets and identifying unusual trading patterns
• introducing new tools or techniques and working to automate manual tasks
• undertaking trading analysis looking for some form of market misconduct, most likely market abuse
• Awareness and some knowledge and experience of UK/European market abuse legislation
• Knowledge of secondary markets (open to experience of different markets, such as equity, FICC, related derivatives etc.) and trading
• Strong analytical and data manipulation skills
• Able to assess information with sound judgement, attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to progress issues on a timely basis and prioritise competing workflows
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Can present effectively in written and oral format
Desirable
• Knowledge of SQL, VBA or some proficiency in Python data packages.
