Assists skilled maintenance workers in the construction, maintenance and repair work of buildings, playground facilities, residences, the equipment housed therein, and other structures requiring several building trades including carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, electrical, and sheet metal work, by performing semi-skilled and manual tasks in various trades; and performs other related duties as required.Examples of Duties:

Assists in the performance of rough and finished carpentry and masonry work in the construction, maintenance and repair of public buildings and structures by selecting, marking, cutting, and installing lumber, laying out, cutting and fitting posts, sills, braces, joists, hip, and common rafters, girts, plates and other structural parts;
Assists in making building repairs including patching roofs, cutting, and replacing glass, replacing screens, rehanging doors, replacing, and repairing locks, repairing, and patching cement floors, walks, drives and foundations;
Assists in installing and removing shelves, partitions, and cabinets;
Assists in repairing and constructing office furniture, doors, tables, and chairs;
Repairs and paints doors, windows, furniture, and new construction;
Prepares a variety of surfaces for painting and paints surfaces with hand brush or spray gun;
Replaces electrical fuses, fixtures, drop cords and switches;
Cleans plugged drains;
Replaces gaskets and washers;
May assist in the installation and maintenance sprinkler systems and wash basins;
Mixes mortar and builds stone walls;
Services, lubricates, regulates, and assists in minor repair work to such equipment as water heaters, refrigeration and air conditioning units, electrical water coolers, motors, and pumps;
Assists in fabricating articles from steel, sheet metal and pipes;
Uses a variety of hand tools and some power equipment in the performance of work;
May operate a motor vehicle in the transportation of materials and workers; and
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and
one (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment which involved carpentry, painting, masonry, electrical and/or plumbing work.
