The Materials Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of all material handling and site logistics functions for the project. This includes overseeing procurement interface, receiving, inspection, storage, inventory control, issuance, and timely delivery of materials and equipment to site. The role ensures that all material operations are conducted safely, cost-effectively, and in compliance with project specifications, schedule, and environmental requirements.
The Project
The project includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels, seawater intake system, a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, groundwater system, drinking water storage and pump system, supported by civil, electrical and bulk earthworks.
Key accountabilities for the position:
- Compliance & Safety - Ensure materials handling aligns with WHS, environmental, quality standards, and NHVR laws; conduct inspections and audits regularly.
- Cost Forecasting - Collaborate with cost and commercial teams to predict material requirements and budgets based on the construction schedule.
- Material Planning & Coordination - Develop and execute materials management systems; align procurement, engineering, and logistics with construction sequencing.
- Receiving, Inspection & Inventory Management - Oversee receiving and inspection processes; manage warehouse operations, inventory systems, and ensure traceability and quality compliance.
- Site Logistics & Issuance - Coordinate timely delivery of materials to work fronts; manage internal logistics, subcontractor interfaces, and enforce site safety protocols.
- Warehouse Setup & Documentation - Set up warehouse and laydown areas; handle unloading, segregation, and inventory reconciliation; maintain thorough records and reporting.
- Subcontractor Supervision & Project Support - Monitor subcontractor performance; contribute to construction planning, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement in materials management.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Tertiary qualifications in Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum >10 years of experience in materials management, preferably on large infrastructure or water industry projects.
- Proven experience in laydown yard/warehouse setup and operations.
- Strong knowledge of materials tracking systems, ERP platforms
- Familiarity with Australian standards, CoR and WHS regulations.
- High level of organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
