Customer Service Representative (Data Collection Representative)

This position, with the Federal Data Collection program, performs data collection and customer service work, and collects, reviews, codes, and refines data collected from the Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses as mandated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

This position:

·       Collects, reviews, and verifies injury and illness data.

·       Performs telephone customer service with employers to resolve data discrepancies and assist with accurate and timely reporting.

·       Identifies medical case information and assigns numeric codes to the data.

·       Prepare routine and special correspondence, including status reports.

·       Collects, researches, edits, and verifies data collected through the annual surveys.

·       Reviews and refines contact information for sampled units to prepare for mailing. 

·       Prepares mail-outs and maintains recordkeeping systems for files and records.

·       Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

This position requires: 

·       Graduation from high school or equivalent.

·       College hours in coursework relevant to the position may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. 

·       Plus: One year’s experience in providing both outgoing and incoming telephone customer services, collecting, reviewing, and verifying data using automated data systems.

Additional job details:

This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours. 

Preferences for this position include:

·       Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish (oral and written).

·       Medical coding and/or medical terminology

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

·       State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.

·       Office practices and administrative procedures.

·       Disseminating technical procedures.

·       Business terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word and processing techniques and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

·       Problem-solving and critical thinking.

·       Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

·       Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.

·       Effective oral and verbal communication.

·       Customer service and professional telephone techniques.

·       Collecting, reviewing, and verifying data.

·       Performing online research using Internet tools and program databases.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

·       Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.

·       Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

·       Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
