The Senior Accountant in the General Accounting department is responsible for performing complex professional accounting and reconciliation work to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions, and assist in monthly general ledger closings using CHA’s ERP system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review bond funded or capital escrow funded activity reports, determine fund transfers needed based on disbursements made, and reconcile usage of bond/escrow funds to validate cash and investment balances held.
- Review transaction records and prepare monthly expenditure accruals, expense allocations, and expenditures reclassifications to align revenues, by general ledger closing due dates using Lawson General Ledger system. Run analytical reports prior to closing, review and coordinate resolution of exceptions.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and matching of expenditures to revenue sources, and prepare required monthly journal vouchers.
- Review requests for accounting key, assign codes that comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and reporting requirements, and update Chart for Accounts as required.
- Prepare notes for financial statements, and variance analyses for annual reporting and quarterly reviews.
- Prepare audit Provided By Client (PBC) schedules, analyses, and other documents for audits and reviews as requested.
- Review and expand knowledgeable of HUD regulations and accounting guidelines, to ensure accuracy of accounting documents, entries and records to meet reporting requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related field, Certified Public Accountant and three (3) to five (5) years experience in public or governmental accounting.
This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles), accounting theory and practices. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent analytical skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.
