Description

Carrier Process Equipment Group (CPEG) is a Louisville, KY based company with multiple businesses specializing in material handling and processing equipment. We are looking for the BEST in the industry to help us grow our businesses in the Buffalo, NY area. 


This role reports to the Mechanical Design Team Leader and will be involved with the development and complete engineering definition of products for fabrication in conjunction with sales proposals and customer input that perform in an efficient and reliable manner while satisfying customer needs.

We are seeking someone who is a self-starter and team player. You also demonstrate ownership and competence and go above and beyond for your teammates and customers. 


Schedule: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some remote work is possible. Some travel (under 20%) to vendors as required. This is an hourly compensated and overtime will be required on an infrequent, but as needed basis. 


What you’ll do

  • Maintain specific knowledge of project-specific engineering schedule and elevate potential issues with the schedule and/or foreseeable conflicts or delays to supervisor.
  • Have specific knowledge of project routings and elevate potential issues to supervisor.
  • Actively participate in project kick-off meetings.
  • Have a complete understanding of project specifications and customer expectations.
  • Identify discrepancies or lack of information in available project documentation to supervisor.
  • Understand and adhere to product design standards and guidelines.
  • Select and source common mechanical components.
  • Develop complete definition of mechanical components for communication to vendor for purchasing.
  • Create comprehensive 3D models to be used for design review and fabrication drawing creation.
  • Understand and implement machine design practices including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), surface finishes, component fits.
  • Understand in-house fabrication and testing capabilities. Design products for manufacturability.
  • Utilize Syteline ERP as required throughout project.
  • Produce shop-ready drawings and bills of material for fabrication with clear and concise information and details.
  • Support production during fabrication and assembly phases of projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a 4 year accredited college or university.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D modeling software) design software and parametric modeling techniques
  • Methodical engineering-based approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience in complex custom equipment design.
  • Technical aptitude – You understand equipment specifications and process applications and can understand equipment assembly logistics and material and labor cost contribution to overall equipment cost estimates and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Ability to support multiple sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills: internal (management, sales, engineering, operations) and external (vendors and sub-contractors).
  • Problem-solving skills: With both internal and external customers.
  • Computer skills: Word for process development and documentation; Excel for calculations; Database for leveraging job costing and project history information.
  • Multi-tasking, including attention to detail and assignment prioritization. Multiple projects and priorities in a daily changing      environment.

  • Previous manufacturing floor and design exposure.
