Description
Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will lead the accounting operations and financial reporting functions for our privately held company, bringing a proactive, hands-on leadership style to the role.
Role Objectives:
· Lead and supervise the accounting team, ensuring compliance with GAAP, robust internal controls, and company policies and procedures
· Collaborate with senior management to maintain and update the business plan and financial forecasts
· Partner with organizational leadership to design, implement, and optimize financial processes
· Oversee the preparation of monthly financial reports; analyze budget-to-actual variances and present insights to management
· Develop financial forecasts in coordination with functional leaders to support strategic planning
· Manage all internal and external audit activities, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit requests
· Facilitate seamless workflow between shared services and core business operations to enhance efficiency and communication
Role Responsibilities:
· Lead and oversee staff accountants and AP/AR operations
· Design and implement financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems
· Develop comprehensive financial strategies, including risk mitigation and opportunity forecasting
· Conduct high-level analysis of financial reports to guide business decisions
· Manage treasury functions, ensuring optimal cash flow and resource allocation
· Drive operational efficiencies and cost-reduction initiatives across the organization
· Oversee debt management activities, including bank reconciliations and credit arrangements
· Prepare accurate and timely company tax filings and financial statements
· Ensure full compliance with statutory laws, regulations, and financial reporting standards
· Collaborate closely with the Executive team to communicate key findings and strategic insights
· Assigning responsibilities based on individual strengths and competencies
· Evaluate employee performance and recommend compensation adjustments aligned with results
· Foster professional development through targeted internal and external training programs
· Promote a culture of continuous growth and learning across the team
Provide ongoing coaching on both technical competencies and leadership behaviors
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Deep expertise in accounting and finance, grounded in a strong command of financial principles and strategic analysis
• Proven experience leading mergers and acquisitions, driving successful outcomes from due diligence to integration
• Skilled in team leadership with a track record of effectively training, mentoring, and motivating staff to exceed performance benchmarks
• Strong managerial and leadership background with a consistent history of setting ambitious goals and achieving measurable results
• Highly efficient and composed under pressure, maintaining focus and productivity in fast-paced environments
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, supporting data-driven decision-making
· Extensive knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring regulatory compliance and financial accuracy
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises a team of 3-6 accounting professionals, ensuring operations align with organizational policies and relevant laws. The Controller plays a key role in fostering a collaborative work environment and promoting team growth and leads all aspects of personnel management, including:
· Interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new team members
· Delegating tasks and overseeing daily workflows
· Conducting performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback
· Recognizing achievements and administering disciplinary actions when necessary
· Managing employee concerns with tact and resolving issues efficiently
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree and/or CPA certification strongly preferred.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, ideally with the oil and gas or industrial services sectors.
• At least five years of proven experience in direct team leadership and management•
