GENERAL SUMMARY 

The Laboratory Supervisor under the direction of the Medical Laboratory Director the Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing laboratory technical staff, monitoring processing of medical specimens, maintaining laboratory supplies inventory and knowledge of and compliance with accrediting agencies policies and regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage all laboratory staff daily. Monitor work practices and ensure all stated policies and procedures are followed.
  • Monitor receipt, processing and eventual reporting of all specimens received and processed in laboratory.
  • Maintains and updates all laboratory standard operating procedures, policies and procedures and quality management system.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining inventory. Ensure supplies are available as required for lab sessions.
  • Monitor accrediting agency regulations.
  • Review Quality Assurance.
  • Responsible for Employees Performance Appraisals.
  • Responsible for initial training documentation.
  • Responsible for ongoing employee competency assessments.
  • Coordinate on-site training for new and existing staff members.
  • Ensure communication of laboratory data and appropriate result reporting.
  • Release samples to laboratory personnel and communicate due dates and update turnaround times.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and system regulations to provide a safe operation.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate policy procedures in the laboratory.
  • Establish and maintain all laboratory records in accordance with specifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of health care planning and management principles and practices sufficient to manage, direct, and coordinate Care Center operations.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Customer-oriented with ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to build relationships with patients and display empathy and compassion to patients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization.


Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s degree in related field strongly preferred.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience.

Experience in managing a team of laboratory technicians.
