Position Description:

The University of Louisville is seeking to hire a Department Coordinator II for the Center for Military Connected Students. The Department Coordinator II serves as the institution’s subject matter expert for military Tuition Assistance (TA) from all branches of the Armed Forces, State Tuition Assistance (STA) from the Kentucky National Guard, and residency coding actions for members eligible for the reduced military tuition rate. This position updates institutional processes and policies to ensure military TA and STA benefits are properly processed in accordance with changing military regulations and state/federal laws.

The position supports the initiatives of the Center for Military-Connected Students by assisting potential military-connected students with admissions questions, encouraging student recruitment, and educating students on military benefits such as TA. Facilitates military installation access by managing the access request process for all UofL Faculty and Staff.

Will fill in for the Assistant Director representing the institution at education and career fairs, college nights, and senior installation and community leaders through attendance at events in the local community and on military installations (I.E., deployment events, veteran events, homecoming events, change of command events).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Executes the institution’s military Tuition Assistance (TA) processing program for all branches of the Armed Forces and the State Tuition Assistance (STA) program for the Kentucky National Guard in accordance with military regulation and state/federal laws

  • Executes the institution’s residency coding program for the reduced military tuition rate for all branches of the Armed Forces, establishing procedures to ensure an efficient and robust process, making necessary updates as needed

  • Connects potential military-connected students with internal UofL stakeholders such as Office of Admissions, Academic Advising Office, Bursar’s Office, Student Financial Aid, and Registrar’s Office.

  • Educates military-connected students and UofL faculty / staff on military benefits such as TA.

  • Engages with servicemembers regarding TA and STA issues and engages with installation Education Offices around the nation, when necessary for individual TA issues.

  • Reconciles departmental purchase card transactions.

Preferred Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Undergraduate degree, and four (4) years of relevant experience

  • Veteran of service in the U.S. military, or service as a military spouse.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  •  Ability to learn new systems within higher education, and to translate between military and higher education civilian operations and actions.

  • Enrollment, Admissions, or Student Success Management experience (customer service experience suitable substitute)

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.

  • Ability to learn and utilize new software and programs.

  • Ability to evaluate data and other information with the ability to choose the best solution and make recommendations.

  • Ability to anticipate and plan for problems before they arise.

  • Ability to manage time effectively and to keep tasks appropriately prioritized.

  •  Ability to build effective, strong working relationships with employees.

  • Ability to change directions as needed for the good of the department.

Target Compensation

$20.67 per hour to $24.77, compensation commensurate to candidate experience.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
