Description

Who Is FitLab:

FitLab is a performance lifestyle company that inspires movement and builds community through the most beloved products, studios, events, and athletes on the planet. As we enter an exciting phase of growth, FitLab’s Finance team is looking for an Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist to help process, track, and record payments in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. The AP specialist will have a daily, ongoing impact on financial transactions, keeping us on track, on time, and on good terms with our valued partners.

Job Summary:

FitLab is looking for a proactive and detail-driven Senior Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role offers the chance to own day-to-day transactional accounting and play a key part in producing accurate and timely financial statements that support strategic decision-making across the organization.

As Senior Staff Accountant, you’ll be at the center of our month-end close process—ensuring data integrity, streamlining workflows, and delivering draft financials to the Controller by the 5th of each month. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with teams throughout the company and have the opportunity to improve processes, build strong relationships, and contribute to a culture of accountability and excellence.

Who you are:??

You are someone who sees crunching numbers is part of your daily cardio. You are meticulous and like to have everything in order (e.g., financial records arranged systematically) so you can retrieve a record at a moment’s notice. You are emotionally resilient and can handle even the most challenging calls with a positive and optimistic attitude. You play well with others and believe strongly that everybody counts, however you choose to surround yourself with assets, not liabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Month-End Close & Reporting
Deliver timely and accurate financials to the Controller by the 5th of each month, utilizing fast-close procedures. Monitor month-end timelines, identify bottlenecks, and resolve issues to ensure smooth and timely closures.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations
Maintain and review detailed balance sheet reconciliations, overseeing team members and ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Team Leadership & Development
Supervise and support the GL and AR clerks, conduct weekly check-ins, manage workloads, provide performance feedback, and offer ongoing training.
  • Transaction Review & Accuracy
Review the work of GL and AR clerks for accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Bank & System Controls
Ensure the completion of daily soft bank reconciliations and manage the integrity of the accounting system post-close.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration
Partner with operations, studio managers, and other departments to address vendor inquiries, billing, and financial reporting concerns.
  • Compliance & Reporting
Oversee the preparation of compliance data for income tax and sales tax filings, working closely with external tax professionals.
  • Variance & Performance Analysis
Provide monthly variance analysis (budget vs. actual), offering insights that support leadership’s decision-making.
  • Audit & Special Projects
Assist with audits, system conversions, and other cross-functional accounting projects, supporting the business in any capacity needed.
  • Inbox & Documentation Management
Maintain an organized and efficient accounting inbox, ensuring that all financial documentation is filed properly within shared systems.
  • Budget Process Support
Help the leadership team prepare for annual budgeting by providing insights into historical spend trends, particularly vendor-level data.
  • Tax & Compliance Support
Support the preparation of monthly sales tax filings and assist with compliance data for tax returns.

Requirements
  • Experience:
At least 5-7 years of experience in accounting, with a proven track record of managing the month-end close process and delivering timely, accurate financial reports.
  • Leadership:
At least 3 years of experience leading an accounting team in a service-based business (studios, classes, or similar environment).
  • ERP Experience:
Full Circle ERP experience is preferred; experience with NetSuite or a similar accounting software is a plus.
  • Communication & Prioritization:
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Month-End Close Expertise:
In-depth experience in month-end close and reporting, with a high attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing financial transactions.
  • Tax & Compliance Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of tax compliance, including sales tax and income tax, and experience with preparing documentation for audits and tax filings.
  • Team Leadership:
Proven experience in leading, mentoring, and training teams, with a commitment to helping others develop professionally.
  • Education & Certification:
CPA and Big 4 preferred, though not required.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  If you are unable to meet any of these physical demands, reasonable accommodations will be made to the best of FitLab’s ability.
