- Location – Parramatta
- Employment type – Temporary full-time up to 12 months with a possibility of extension or conversion to ongoing
- Grade – Clerk Grade 5/6
- Salary – $99,398 pa - $110,271 pa plus employers to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
The Assistant Policy Officer plays a key role in supporting the organisation’s policy development and implementation efforts. The position is responsible for preparing policy documents such as discussion papers, briefs, and submissions, and for providing timely, research-based advice to inform decision-making. This role contributes directly to shaping and delivering policy initiatives that align with the organisation’s strategic priorities and commitments.
What you’ll do
The Child and Family Strategy branch leads the development of system-level solutions to improve outcomes for children, young people, families, and communities. This work involves close collaboration across DCJ, other government departments (such as Health and Education), and intra/inter-jurisdictional partners to identify client needs, assess system performance, and align with government priorities.
Your day-to-day activities will consistently contribute to better outcomes for the communities we serve.
- Prepare discussion papers, briefs and submissions, to contribute to the development and delivery of policy and project initiatives.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes.
- Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings, and stakeholder consultations to support engagement.
- Undertake research and collate information for providing advice within tight timeframes.
- Monitor shared inboxes
- Provide Secretariat support for a range of interjurisdictional meetings.
What we’re looking for
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of public policy, work well under pressure, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. Experience in whole-of-government governance and secretariat support is desirable.
In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must be able to:

- Deliver results, and
- Be flexible to work with continuously changing priorities.
