The Football Nutrition Fellow, assists with the responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and management of the clinical nutrition services provided to student-athletes representing the football program. This person will help manage daily tasks of the fueling station, handle deliveries, as well as help with all game day activities within the Football program.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Collaborates with Nutrition Staff regarding athlete care and health related department programs.

  • Suggests innovative oral and written nutrition education.

  • Evaluates nutritional trends and supplement products.

  • Maintains professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

  • Assists department with dietary plans for athletes.

  • Analyzes dietary supplements marketed to athletes, coaches and staff.

  • Documents nutrition services provided and evaluates the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions                              

  • Actively participate as a member of the University of Miami Sports Nutrition staff
  • Help manage the fueling station/players lounge within football
  • Work in collaboration with the Football Nutrition Coordinator, to receive meal deliveries, and assist in set up and tear down of daily meals for football athletes
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Football nutrition to help athletes reach their goals with meal plans created by the Director
  • Work in collaboration with the Lead in football nutrition, to procure vendors and to maintain relationships/communications with the vendors
  • Help to assist and manage all aspects of operations of Nutrition Center and assigned Fueling Stations including managing student-volunteers/interns/work study, product inventory, ordering, receiving, and distribution in collaboration with the Football Nutrition Coordinator
  • Assist in all game day operations with hotels and stadiums along with the Director of Football Nutrition
  • Maintain effective communication with coaching staff, athletic trainers, strength staff and other individuals from the Athletic Department on any nutrition related matter.
  • Serve our student-athletes with a positive, welcoming, and committed attitude.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the sports dietitian

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or a related area
  • Ability to work a non-standard work week which may include nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and complete work tasks with minimal direction
  • Knowledge of sports nutrition and food service management
  • Ability to be punctual, enthusiastic, and self-motivated
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Canva 
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
