Position: Specialist

Rank & Salary: 50% time, non-tenure

Salary commensurate with qualifications. Expected pay rate prorated to percent time, including one month summer work. Salary range, $40,000-$45,000. 

This position requires relocation to Austin, TX. 

Responsibiities include the following: 

To coordinate all aspects of Longhorn Band Color Guard, including program coordination, program design, choreography, instruction and clinics. 

 

  • ·       Advertise, recruit for, and adjudicate Longhorn band color guard member selection
  • ·       Attend all Longhorn Band rehearsals and performances, including post season conference championship games, bowl games and FBS playoff games
  • ·       Teach Fall and Spring color guard class
  • ·       Design and teach color guard choreography in traditional college football styles as well as contemporary drum corps styles. 
  • ·       Enhancement of the audio through a dynamic range of efforts: space, time, weight, and flow.
  • ·       Imaginative and inventive use of a variety of design choices
  • ·       Achievement of spacing, line, timing, and orientation
  • ·       Adherence to style and equipment, movement, and motion
  • ·       Achievement of characteristics, detail, and nuance
  • ·       Fundamental training, concentration, stamina, and recovery
  • ·       Understanding and application of equipment principles
  • ·       Achievement of blended body and equipment challenges
  • ·       Development of breath, muscle, tension, flexion, and rotation
  • ·       Training to support performance vocabulary
  • ·       Develop a culture of teamwork within all students on the color guard team
  • ·       Follow all faculty and staff guidelines

Qualifications

The Butler School of Music in the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin  periodically hires academic specialists for non-faculty positions that require expertise in specific areas. Candidates should have training, education and experience commensurate with that specialization to be taught, have potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
