About the Role
The primary purpose of the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Infectious Disease) is to promote the safe, effective, and optimal use of antimicrobial agents across University Hospital. This role focuses on improving patient outcomes through evidence-based clinical practice, providing direct patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team or functioning independently as a subject matter expert in infectious disease pharmacotherapy
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
- Leads assessment, prioritization, planning, and implementation of antimicrobial therapy management initiatives. Evaluates medication use data and collaborates with stakeholders to develop action plans that optimize antimicrobial use, reduce hospital costs, and improve patient outcomes.
- Designs and recommends patient-specific antimicrobial dosing regimens and protocols, approved by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee. These are based on pharmacokinetic/pharmacologic profiles, comorbid conditions, concurrent therapies, and other relevant patient factors to ensure safe and effective drug therapy.
- Screens and monitor patients on antimicrobial therapy to ensure appropriate agent selection, dosing, and duration; evaluates for IV-to-oral conversion opportunities; adjusts doses for renal or hepatic impairment; and performs pharmacokinetic assessments to optimize therapy.
- Demonstrate leadership in antimicrobial stewardship by organizing and preparing for Antibiotic Sub-Committee meetings, managing the anti-infective formulary, developing evidence-based medication use criteria in collaboration with medical staff, and working with the microbiology lab to maintain and update the hospital antibiogram.
- Actively participates in the Anti-Infective Sub-Committee of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
Required:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited school of pharmacy is required.
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residency in Infectious Diseases is preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of hospital experience with advanced clinical responsibilities is required.
- Board Certification in a specialized area (e.g., BCIDP) is required within one (1) year of hire or upon meeting BPS eligibility criteria.
- Must hold an active license as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of New Jersey.

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)
The expected salary range for this position is Min $127,898.00 – Mid $155,225.00 – Max $ 186,180.00 per year, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
