Communications and Engagement Officer
Location – Parramatta, flexible work arrangements are supported.
Employment type – Temporary full-time role up to 30 June 2028
Salary - $113,574.00 pa to $125,720.00 pa, plus employers' contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
Your role will involve coordinating and delivering community engagement and communications activities to promote the Step Together Helpline and the Engagement and Support Program (ESP), as part of the Countering Violent Extremism Engagement and Support Unit within the Interventions and Innovations Branch.
What you’ll do
Day to day, your role will involve maintaining and building strong partnerships with community organisations and service providers to support referrals from the Step Together Helpline and the ESP. You will also be responsible for developing communications content across various formats to support the department’s communications strategy—informing and engaging the community on countering violent extremism while maintaining the department’s reputation with key stakeholders.
The Engagement and Support Unit (ESU), part of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), is a specialised team dedicated to the prevention and early intervention of violent extremism. Recognised both nationally and internationally for its work in countering violent extremism (CVE), the DCJ ESU contributes to national best practices in CVE interventions. The unit collaborates closely with Commonwealth and NSW agencies in delivering programs such as the Engagement and Support Program (ESP) and the Step Together Helpline.
What we’re looking for
This position is ideal for a dynamic and motivated communications professional with a strong track record in developing and delivering impactful campaigns and resources. You bring experience in managing online, digital, and social media content, and have contributed to promotional efforts that support the mission of the Engagement and Support Unit (ESU).
You are an exceptional communicator, skilled at crafting compelling narratives and delivering clear, effective messaging. You understand how to engage diverse audiences and tailor communication strategies to suit their needs.
With a proactive and solutions-focused mindset, you’re capable of working independently, thriving under pressure, and meeting tight deadlines. You are also a confident networker who builds strong relationships with stakeholders and collaborates effectively across teams, offices, and sectors.
Essential Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Communications, Social/Behavioural Science, Welfare, or a related field, or possess equivalent knowledge and experience, with a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- Current NSW driver’s licence and willingness to travel within NSW.
