Engineering Manager - China

In this role, you'll collaborate across global teams, drive execution on region-specific initiatives, and help shape the future of our mobile platform across several high-profile fitness brands.

 

ROLE COMMITMENTS

• Serve as the primary liaison for engineering discussions with regional development, QA, and business teams in China, ensuring strong cross-functional collaboration and alignment across regions.
• Ensure consistent and reliable app performance by driving strong engineering practices, including comprehensive test coverage, CI/CD, and optimizations for device and network configurations specific to the Chinese market.
• Align with product, design, and backend teams to scope, prioritize, and deliver solutions that serve both the Chinese market and broader business goals.
• Stay ahead of regional platform changes, compliance requirements, and device integration needs—including OS updates, local app stores, and third-party integrations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead a hybrid team of internal developers and China-based external partners, ensuring technical alignment, smooth collaboration, and high-quality delivery.
• Drive agile execution across development and test teams, coordinating across time zones to support alignment between China-based teams and global stakeholders.
• Partner with the Technical Program Manager and Director of Mobile Engineering to execute region-specific initiatives and contribute to the overall mobile strategy.
• Guide technical design, code review, and test efforts for mobile features and frameworks, with a focus on integrations specific to the China app ecosystem.

Qualifications

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years experience in mobile development, including 2+ years in engineering leadership or management roles.
• Demonstrated success leading distributed or offshore teams, particularly across North America–Asia time zones.
• Familiarity with China-specific mobile development challenges, such as network optimization, app store publishing, and local user expectations.
• Strong grasp of agile methodologies and experience managing teams within agile frameworks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Mandarin and English.
