Who are we looking for?  

We have an immediate opportunity available for a Tax Leader-Americas. 

 As a leader of the Americas Tax Team, you will assist the Enterprise Tax Leader in overseeing the tax affairs of the Americas region. This includes:

Providing tax advice, ensuring delivery and implementation of commercial tax advice with respect to international projects, legislative changes, including mergers and acquisitions and capital management structuring.

Managing tax risks and tax governance, overseeing and managing tax compliance obligations, tax provisions, research and tax reporting requirements including proactively advising on strategies to address gaps and mitigate risks.

Monitoring and developing/implementing strategies to manage Americas’ effective tax rate.

Overseeing and managing tax controversy and tax related audits and reviews, including liaison with the tax authorities and external advisors.

Driving operational efficiencies and effectiveness through automation, process improvements and ways of working.

Upholding the highest standard of integrity, you will support the Enterprise Tax Leader in building an efficient tax function, including but not limited to, the delivery of the Global Tax Strategy, ensuring tax governance and compliance obligations are met.

The role can be based in several GHD office locations in Canada and the U.S. GHD supports a hybrid work model.

Working with an energetic and hard-working team, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Operate as a business partner to support and identify business needs and provide commercial tax advice and/or tax training
  • Ensure new areas of business/revenue streams are analyzed and tax treatment/ strategies developed
  • Participate in Mergers and Acquisitions, tax due diligence
  • Monitor and manage Americas’ effective tax rate
  • Monitor tax developments and changes to tax legislations to provide timely advice on potential impacts and enable strategic responses and/or implement changes
  • Advise and actively educate finance and other business partners (where relevant) on relevant changes in tax legislation
  • Work closely with finance team and external advisors to support the R&D/SR&ED tax incentive programs
  • Work with Mobility and Secretariat teams on employee and shareholder tax issues
  • Responsible for direct and indirect tax compliance ensuring accuracy and compliance with local tax laws and filing requirements
  • Identify and assess tax risks and compliance gaps, delivering actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance compliance

 Experience and knowledge required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. equivalent number of years of experience, plus 15+ years of accounting/business operations experience.
  • CPA designation and/or master’s degree in accounting, taxation, or related field (strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • Experience in the Big 4 firms and/or similar roles in a large, multinational corporate tax environment
  • Business proficiency in Spanish with demonstrated ability to discuss accounting and tax matters with native speakers
