Summary
City Market, Onion River Co-op is seeking an Assistant Produce Manager who is responsible for managing the Produce department alongside the Produce Manager. This position oversees the daily operations of the Produce department to maintain stocking, merchandising, and cleaning as well as overseeing the Produce Team Leaders, Buyers, Shift Leaders, and Stockers. The Assistant Produce Manager supervises employees and is responsible for hiring, coaching, and development, performance evaluation, and corrective action for department employees, in accordance with City Market policies and procedures. This position maintains the highest standard of professionalism and customer service, facilitates employee development, quality control, profitability, and operating-cost reduction, and contributes proactively towards a positive work environment.

Day-to-Day Duties
- Maintain sound receiving practices for stockers including but not limited to shelf tag compliance, case/equipment maintenance, and OSHA compliance to ensure positive operating results.
- Meet or exceed sub-department net sales targets.
- Adhere to department’s labor and expense targets.
- Ensure meeting of sub-department margin targets by performing essential functions and collaborating with Purchasing team.
- Work with Manager and People & Culture to hire, train, develop, supervise, support, and evaluate the performance of all direct repots.
- Develop and maintain favorable relations with staff, other departments, members, customers, and vendors.
- Work with the team to keep the shelves well stocked and attractive, keep accurate stock loss records, maintain acceptable inventory levels, utilize all back storage areas effectively and efficiently.
- Work in various work environments with various temperatures, including working in freezers and coolers, lift (up to 50 lbs. regularly), walk, stand, move, carry, and stock.
- Work with Purchasing and Merchandising team, Retail Sales, and Category Coordinator to maintain promotional displays, endcaps, and adherence to store-wide promotional programs.
- Adhere to the category management calendar and analyzes product performance data, customer requests, trends, and staff insight to maximize product assortments.
- Assist with communication of product information to staff and other departments.
- Assist with coordinating and executing relevant product training opportunities for staff.
- Keep abreast of industry knowledge and conditions of the local marketplace, national grocery and Co-op trends, product mix and selection, and competitors.
- Order and maintain COGS supplies.
- Respond to customer comments and feedback appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Follow all department and City Market policies and procedures.
- Create a safe working environment and report safety concerns appropriately.
- Coordinate and execute regularly scheduled inventory.
- Maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality in information including but not limited to financial, personnel, customer, and vendor relations.
- Adhere to all policies as outlined in the City Market Employee Guide.
- Familiarize and adhere to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Support City Market’s Global Ends, Values, Co-op Principles, and Diversity Statement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s experience in business or a combination of related experience preferred.
- Minimum of three years retail or related management experience with a focus in Produce.
- Minimum of three years management experience including but not limited to: hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and developing staff.
- Minimum of three years’ experience developing and implementing budgets and adhering to labor cost requirements.
- Experience managing employees required.
- Experience and solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Knowledge of natural and conventional foods and the food industry preferred.
