Post Doctoral Fellow II – Hybrid in Aliso Viejo, CA

The postdoctoral fellow will be required to conduct research projects associated with technology implementation and bioinformatics for rare disease variant discovery and reclassification. This includes generation and analysis of long-read genomes, transcriptomes, and epigenomes for the diagnosis of rare diseases. He/she will be responsible for presenting data at internal group, department, and/or other company meetings, as well as various external meetings when appropriate. Each postdoc will be assigned a mentor at Ambry that will provide scientific advice and guidance. All Ambry postdocs are expected to publish results both internally and externally. 

This is a one-year program that can be renewed up to three years. Each year needs confirmation from sponsor and the APP that trainee is making significant progress towards goals. 

Essential Functions

  • Handle and prepare research samples for laboratory assays 
  • Develop and manage research bioinformatic pipelines 
  • Analyze and interpret data 
  • Present data and results internally and externally 
  • Prepare data and results for publication 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications 

  • Recent recipient of Ph.D. (<4 years) or defense scheduled in next 4 months in a relevant field of study
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and proven ability to conduct independent research at a very high level
  • Outstanding organizational, experimental design, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively
  • Must be proficient in DNA/RNA extraction and analysis
  • Knowledge and experience with the following techniques: assay development, DNA and RNA sample preparation, primary and secondary bioinformatic pipelines, and data analysis

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Sanger sequencing and/or NGS is preferred
