Description
The primary purpose of the role is to provide underwriting and modelling support for Lancashire’s lines of business with a view to further develop underwriting authority.Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the underwriting strategy and process including a daily underwriting call, evaluation of submissions, analysing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract language as well as evaluating and prioritizing preparations
- Produce and present underwriting reports including the review of underwriting figures on a regular basis so that unusual trends and / or adverse movements may be dealt, and appropriate action taken
- Assist and with the development of and work with risk modelling and pricing tools
- Manage broker/client meetings and attend underwriting business meetings
- Leverage, build and maintain brokers relationships
- Monitor and validate account aggregates and exposures
- Work closely with other group departments to obtain and provide information as required
- Monitor market developments and remain current regarding knowledge of business, and legislated and regulatory changes
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of underwriting data in group underwriting systems
- Maintain and adhere to group underwriting procedures, controls and systems under remit and report any trigger/alert factors that have the positional to negatively impact the reputation or financial position of the firm
- Monitor and follow up on payments for outstanding premiums
- Prepare and issue quotes, binders and policies on an accurate and timely basis
- Supervise junior staff and compliance with internal and external underwriting regulations
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- At least 5 years insurance/reinsurance industry experience in either a broking or assistant underwriter capacity. Strong preference will be given to persons with Specialty Reinsurance experience
- At least 5 years modelling/exposure management experience is required
- Excellent numeracy and analytical skills with experience in handling, manipulating, and analyzing large data sets
- Proven track record working within the US or International marketplace
- Previous experience handling short tail business with an emphasis on property reinsurance
- Completion of or progression towards CPCU/ACII is an advantage
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) along with strong negotiation and presentation skills
- Working Knowledge of TigerEye software to model reinsurance structures RMS database schema, and a high level of computer literacy including SQL programming is a distinct advantage
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work extended hours including weekends during busy periods is required
