Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below: 

International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced Electrocardiograph Technician to operate and maintain electrocardiography equipment, record electrical activity of the heart, and assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing and monitoring cardiovascular conditions. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to ensure patient comfort while collecting accurate and reliable cardiac data. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Be assigned to the VA Medical Center located in West Los Angeles or the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Clinic, serving both inpatient and outpatient veteran populations. 
  • Operate and monitor electrocardiographic equipment to perform specialized examinations and studies involving resting ECG, exercise stress testing, and ambulatory ECG monitoring of arrhythmias on both inpatients and outpatients. 
  • Carry pager in line with ECG Tech duties; respond to pages immediately; communicate the needs of ECG support to team members. May be called to provide ECG service on both outpatients and inpatients in West Los Angeles and/or in the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care clinic. 
  • Evaluate test results to determine appropriate machine adjustments and use alternative techniques and procedures when established procedures do not accomplish acceptable results.  
  • Communicate with physician any abnormal or questionable results. 
  • Adapt equipment and accessories as necessary to fit patient needs and provide safe, comfortable care. 
  • Protect patient health information (PHI) in accordance with local policy and HIPAA privacy laws. 
  • Monitor patients' blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram equipment during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures and notify the provider if something appears abnormal. 
  • Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety. 
  • Observe gauges, recorder, and video screens of data analysis system during imaging of cardiovascular system. 
  • Monitor patients' comfort and safety during tests, alerting providers to abnormalities or changes in patient responses. 
  • Obtain and record patient identification, medical history, or test results. 
  • Attach electrodes to the patients' chests, arms, and legs, connect electrodes to leads from the electrocardiogram machine, and operate the electrocardiogram machine to obtain a reading. 
  • Adjust equipment and controls according to provider’s orders or established protocol. 
  • Prepare and position patients for testing. 
  • Check, test, and maintain cardiology equipment, making minor repairs to ensure proper operation and informs Biomedical Engineering, when necessary. 
  • Possess customer service abilities including effective, active listening and be familiar with “patient-centered care” principles and practices and implement such methodologies into daily practices. 
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

This position is contingent upon award

Basic Requirements/Certifications:  

  • Operate instruments used to record electrocardiograms, exercise tolerance tests, 24-48 heart monitoring and scanning, and pacemaker evaluations. Be knowledgeable of typical patient reactions and signs of medical/physical/ psychological distress including ability to recognize report and treat potentially lethal arrhythmias.  Certification is offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT). 
  • Be knowledge of common ECG equipment settings and standardized operating procedures and also knowledgeable of common errors and corrective measures. 
  • Have the ability to demonstrate proper ECG lead placement. 
  • Possess knowledge of medical terminology. 
  • Have the ability to modify procedure/lead positioning to obtain correct results with patients with complicated conditions such as amputations, Parkinson's disease, and structural defects (e.g. scarred tissue). 
  • Be knowledgeable in Operation Monitoring such as watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. 
  • Have basic computer skills. Must be knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook). 

Education Required: 

  • High School (HS) or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs. 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate. 
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. 
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
