Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a HSE Lead reporting to the HSE Regional Manager. As the HSE Lead you will plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with site and company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards. The role is responsible for leading HSE improvement initiatives, managing HSE programs and audits, and supporting the execution of safety leadership and incident management processes across assigned sites. Key responsibilities include trend analysis, implementation of corrective and preventive actions, and the oversight of HSE reporting systems such as PRISM. The role requires collaboration with site leaders, HSE managers, and other departments to drive HSE performance beyond compliance, identify efficiencies, and promote sustainability objectives.

This role is based from our Muurame, Finland site, working Monday to Friday normal office hours. The position involves 30% international travel.

Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Collect and validate HSE data, including performing trend analysis.
  • Implement and verify corrective and preventive actions for HSE issues.
  • Maintain site(s) HSE Management Systems, including internal and ISO standards.
  • Conduct HSE internal audits and manage external audits for compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and manage HSE programs, such as:
  • Leading Indicator Program
  • Industrial Hygiene Program
  • SDS Management System
  • Employee Training Plans
  • Lead incident investigations and support root cause analysis and documentation.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to drive HSE improvements and manage reports in PRISM.
  • Develop safety programs based on incident trends and audits to prevent workplace hazards.
  • Provide HSE training and education to close knowledge gaps and increase awareness.
  • Oversee Contractor Safety Management and Permit to Work Programs to ensure safe operations.
  • Align site HSE practices with company objectives, working with peers and cross-functional teams.
  • Support the execution of Safety Leadership and Smiths JC initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and company HSE requirements, including local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and new technologies to advance sustainability and HSE goals.
  • Lead HSE reviews for new processes and projects to assess risk and implement controls.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Previous experience within a HSE role with strong working knowledge of HSE regulations
  • Working knowledge of ISO14001 and 45001 HSE management systems
  • Knowledge of local HSE regulations
  • Strong written and oral communication, creative problem solving, process improvement, conflict resolution, process deployment administration and change management
  • Excellent time management
  • Fluent in English, Finish and ideally knowledge of local Nordic language
