Method is seeking a Principal Architect to join our Engineering and Delivery organization. In this role you will work alongside developers, product strategists, project managers, and technical leadership to design and build complex solutions to our clients’ needs. If you have experience creating and documenting software architecture from scratch, please read on.
You will work with clients to help them design and deliver software that addresses their needs. As a Principal Architect, you are responsible for listening to stakeholders, compiling their needs, and designing systems to meet these needs. You will be the technical lead on the design and build phases of our projects, leveraging your knowledge of architectural patterns, software delivery, and continuous deployment. You will also work with senior technical people at Method to educate and mentor the rest of the technical organization, keeping us up-to-date on the many directions of the software world.
Travel for team and client meetings is required, typically up to 15%.
Responsibilities:
- Design and propose pragmatic software solutions that meet business requirements as well as relevant quality attributes and architecture characteristics. This can include defining system architectures, choosing appropriate technologies, designing data models, and more.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring that best practices are followed throughout the software development lifecycle. Mentor team members to help them grow and develop inside of project work. Write code, when appropriate, to help a project move toward great outcomes.
- Work closely with product owners and stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements. Discern and address architecturally significant requirements. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on architecture and design decisions.
- Support sales efforts by working with the sales team to create valuable and feasible proposals that address the business needs of the client and create great projects for our delivery teams.
- Create and maintain architectural documentation including architecture descriptions and decision records, system component diagrams, data flow diagrams, deployment diagrams, and integration points.
- Develop prototypes and conduct proof of concepts to validate technical feasibility and proposed solutions. Iterate on designs based on feedback and findings.
- Identify technical risks and constraints and propose mitigations. Proactively address potential issues that may impact project timelines or deliverables.
- Stay informed of how business and technology are evolving, and how these evolutions affect product development, architecture, and engineering.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (9+ years) in software development with at least 3 years in an Architect role
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native application development
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and other web services technologies
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Comfortable working in polyglot environments (able to comprehend and debug code written in Javascript, Java, .NET, Python, Rails, Go, and more)
- Have written and delivered software in production as part of a team
- Familiar with Agile methodologies, their purpose, and application
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and respectable technical writing skills
- Capable of helping to inform “build vs. buy” decisions
- Understand the relationship between the organizational and domain-driven structure of an enterprise and its impact on the solution architecture
- Can explain various architectural patterns, their pros and cons
- Understand how AI is impacting software development, the current tools and techniques, and have familiarity with using AI.
- Comfortable leading workshops leveraging known architectural techniques and activities
- Enjoy mentoring other developers and spreading your knowledge
