COA/North Austin YMCA’s Best Buy Teen Tech Center® is a cutting-edge, technology-focused safe space for youth ages 12-18. Situated in North Austin, this drop-in center offers teens the chance to explore advanced technology and express themselves through personal projects, all while gaining essential life skills and exploring potential career paths.
As the Teen Engagement Coordinator, you will be a driving force in unlocking the potential of teens. By guiding them through transformative experiences in 3D design, graphic design, programming, engineering, music creation, podcasting, and robotics, you’ll inspire their passion for technology and innovation. Your mentorship will not only help them refine their skills but also empower them to envision and pursue their future aspirations. How You Will Make an Impact
- Represent the YMCA's mission by fostering healthy, productive communication with youth, staff, and community stakeholders, contributing to the success of the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network.
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress, document both successes and challenges, and ensure the center remains organized, engaging, and welcoming for all.
- Actively engage and recruit a diverse group of young people, parents, teachers, and community leaders to participate in the Teen Tech Center, expanding its reach and impact.
- Attend network meetings, contribute innovative ideas, address challenges, and collaborate on projects to further strengthen the community.
- Assist with basic computer maintenance, including file management, troubleshooting, and offering technical support to youth, ensuring a seamless learning experience.
- Serve as a mentor to students, building supportive, trusting relationships, and creating an inclusive, empowering learning environment for all participants.
- Manage session setup and closing procedures, assist with logistical tasks, ensure accurate reporting, and perform administrative duties to ensure the smooth operation of programs.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow support staff, program staff, and community partners to achieve shared goals and enhance program offerings.
- Lead by example in upholding and promoting the YMCA’s mission, vision, and values in all interactions and program activities.
What You Bring to the Y
- A high school diploma or GED is required. Relevant certifications (e.g., in technology, youth development, or leadership) or additional education related to technology, education, or youth services is preferred.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in youth development, technology, education, or community engagement.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- A deep interest in technology as a creative and empowering tool, with a portfolio of evidence (e.g., projects you’ve worked on, designs created, or systems you’ve built).
- Experience or a strong interest in areas such as music production, music technology, photography, robotics, podcasting, or other creative fields is a plus.
- Passion for working with youth, particularly in informal and creative learning environments that foster personal growth and development.
- Ability to engage, connect with, and facilitate groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying creative abilities, creating a sense of belonging.
- A talent for making people feel welcomed, valued, and supported, ensuring a positive experience for every participant.
- Familiarity with basic computer operations and software is a plus, enhancing your ability to provide tech support and engage participants in digital learning.
- Strong creative thinking skills, with the ability to proactively identify challenges and develop solutions as they arise, ensuring smooth program operations.
