External applicants will not be considered.     Position Overview: The Department of Authorizing and Policy supports Texas LEAs to provide high-quality public school options for Texas students. The Director of Virtual/Hybrid Education is an integral leader in the Department and will establish the new Division of Virtual/Hybrid Education. The Director establishes the strategic vision of virtual/hybrid education in Texas, leads the implementation and rulemaking for new legislation (SB 569 – TEC Chapter 30B) that overhauls the state’s virtual/hybrid education policy and oversees the wind down of the Texas Virtual Schools Network under TEC 30A.   The work entails building and managing a detailed and support-oriented multi-level team of 6 members that oversees designing, and managing the authorization process for full-time virtual/hybrid campuses including the standard and expedited application processes, portfolio management through virtual/hybrid campus data analysis and revocation, the design and execution of the Virtual/Hybrid Accelerator providing $5MM annually in grants to LEAs, the creation and launch of professional development for virtual/hybrid teachers along with the design, launch, and administration of the digital teaching micro-credential, overseeing the optional flexible school day program, providing guidance regarding online dropout recovery programs. The Director of Virtual/Hybrid Education represents the agency at meetings, trainings, & conferences and provides consultative support to senior-level LEA leaders and Superintendents.    The role reports directly to the Deputy Associate Commissioner of Authorizing and Policy and works under minimum supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.   Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.     Please note that a resume and short answer responses are required attachments for applying to this position. You may perform other functions as assigned.   1. Virtual/Hybrid Authorization and Portfolio Management: Design, launch, and oversee a rigorous yet supportive authorization process to ensure that high-quality applicants gain approval to launch virtual/hybrid campuses in Texas. Evaluate, analyze, and track performance data of virtual/hybrid campuses to determine authorization status and implement revocation procedures if necessary.  2. Virtual/Hybrid Accelerator Grant Program: Design, launch, and oversee the annual $5MM virtual/hybrid accelerator grant program to support LEAs to design and launch virtual/hybrid programs and campuses to provide high-quality, best-fit options to students 3. Optional Flexible School Day Program: Oversee a rigorous yet supportive optional flexible school day application process to ensure that LEAs can provide flexibility to students in Texas. Revise the application process to ensure high-quality experiences for students supported through this program. 4. Resources and Support: Design, launch, and administer professional development for educators related to virtual/hybrid education including managing the digital teaching micro-credential grant. 5. Team Management and Supervision: Build and manage a high-quality detail-oriented team that embraces innovation, best practice, and continuous improvement. 

Qualifications
