About the Job:

The Stanley Black & Decker Strategic Sourcing Team is looking to recruit an experienced Lead Commodity Manager to help manage the $300M+ global Packaging category. This individual will be an integral part of the Corporate Global Procurement & Strategic Sourcing which manages $9.5B+ annual spend in a matrix environment for a multinational company with $14.5B in revenues. This position has global responsibility with team members located in APAC, EMEA and Americas. This individual’s responsibility will include delivering productivity, managing contract negotiations, driving working capital gains and supplier relationship management. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is the continued focus of our organization which drives service, quality, innovation and price. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in Packaging commodity leadership, purchasing, operations leadership and/or project management with a strong working knowledge across paper, plastic and fabric based packaging categories such as corrugated, folding cartons, printed cards, manuals, labels, thermoforms, soft storage, blow molds, films and other related packaging.
 

Hit operational metrics …..

  • Manage spend of $150M+ Globally for Packaging
  • Achieve 5% YOY Productivity Goals, across a balanced scorecard including Productivity, Service, Innovation & Quality
  • Maintain 80% of Managed Spend Under Contract
  • Drive Complexity Reduction with focus on supplier rationalization and tail spend reduction
  • Category Management Strategies in place to derisk supply base and provide resiliency
  • WC achieve optimum cash flow benefits through PT, LT & Stocking Agreements

Roles & Responsibilities will also include:  

  • Manage packaging spend and related supply base in support of plant, division and corporate business priorities (Service, Quality, Innovation and Productivity)
  • Lead a team of direct report(s) while partnering with Regional Commodity Managers to meet Sourcing objectives
  • Develop & Implement Sourcing Strategies for NA that are aligned with Global Packaging Strategy
  • Works closely with other leaders & Business Units to drive synergies across global spend ecosystem
  • Deliver annual productivity 5%+ and working capital through predefined strategic events
  • Maintain and understand a broad knowledge of market intelligence on a monthly basis to the business tracking trends and advising on the buy strategies
  • Conducts quarterly business reviews with suppliers
  • Prepare & conducts negotiations for Year-Over-Year productivity expectations
  • Prepare contract/agreement for signature and approval within the team
  • Drive and develops regional risk strategies
  • Leads and supports tariff mitigation initiatives
  • Identifies and develops new sources of supply to support growth across businesses and categories
  • Partners cross functionally across Strategic Sourcing, Engineering and SBD manufacturing network in support of organization wide KPI’s

Education and Experience:


4-year Bachelor’s degree required

5+ years of experience in Strategic Sourcing with primary focus on packaging

Packaging Engineering to be considered when coupled with history of supplier negotiations and analytics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven track record of Strategic Sourcing/Category Management
  • Experience in leadership and team management
  • Working knowledge of the packaging Industry, materials and processes
  • Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated performance in cost reductions
  • Efficient analytic skills while working with large datasets
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, and be able to influence
  • Program management and problem-solving skills required
  • Able to work to deadlines and prioritize on a day to day basis
  • International Sourcing experience preferred
  • Effective leadership and facilitation demonstrated
