Do you have excellent verbal and written communications skills and are able to communicate effectively with external partners as well as internal audiences, including Ministers and Private Office?

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Visits and Networks Team, within the Export Promotion Unit. You will coordinate the overseas ministerial trade & investment visits programme and provide support to the Team Leader on a programme of inward visits from overseas delegations.

This role involves great opportunities to develop stakeholder engagement (internal and external), programme management, and prioritisation skills. You will liaise regularly with private office and ministers, and will have the opportunity to accompany ministers in Scotland and on certain overseas visits.

You will report directly to the Team Leader, whilst working alongside a colleague providing secretariat support to the Trade & Investment Envoy Network..

The Exports and Inward Investment Policy Division (within the Directorate for International Trade and Investment) has policy and delivery responsibility of the Scottish Government’s Export Growth (A Trading Nation) and Inward Investment Plans.. The Division is outward looking to make connections with our Enterprise Agencies and industry to growth Scotland’s exports and attract inward investment that supports Scotland’s economic transformation.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project management, development and implementation of the trade & investment ministerial visits programme.
  • Working closely with Ministers and Private Office virtually and in-person – this includes briefing orally and in writing (including writing submissions).
  • Leading and managing planning and communication with key delivery partners including SDI International Visits Team, Private Office, Special Advisers, Comms, Directorate for External Affairs and Culture, and other policy teams as part of the international visits programme.
  • Leading the drafting and coordination of briefing for international engagements (with support of other colleagues).
  • Supporting with PQs, MiCase, and FOIs within the unit. 
  • Providing support to the Team Leader on Inward Visits, including engaging with stakeholders and briefing.
  • All colleagues within the unit are responsible for light-touch intelligence gathering on certain priority markets. This post oversees Canada, and is expected to take up to 10% of the post holder’s role.
