This position is responsible for maintenance of assigned vehicles, communications equipment, buildings, and grounds within the EMS Department. Provides information necessary for budget planning and preparation and for development and execution of the departmental Management Action Plan. Functions as liaison with external vendors/agencies in regard to maintenance, parts supplies, and repairs. Advises the EMS Director on vehicle status and recommends technical improvements. Maintains a high degree of technical proficiency in respect to emergency vehicles and communications equipment. This position functions as a member of the EMS Senior Management Team and is subject to emergency call and response throughout the service area on twenty-four (24) hour availability. This position will also provide reports and other necessary fleet information to EMS Director. Will work collaboratively with EMS Director as a resource and to streamline policies and procedures regarding fleet maintenance.Three (3) years experience in the field of fleet repair with one (1) year of resources management or maintenance coordination experience preferred. Certified in CFC air conditioning recovery. Certified Automotive Service Excellence or Emergency Vehicle Technician preferred. Previous experience with EMS maintenance, specifically electrical and air conditioning systems of ambulances preferred. Requires a valid NC driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Basic knowledge of accounting skills and practices. Working knowledge of departmental policies and practices. Working knowledge of safety rules and regulations-local, state, and federal. Ability to use personal computer to prepare spreadsheets and other reports. Working knowledge of the functions, terminology, procedures, equipment, and techniques used in emergency vehicle fleet systems. Ability to drive various types of EMS vehicles safely and operate communications equipment.Hearing, speaking, and visual acuity are required. Ability to operate an emergency vehicle and the ability to move around numerous physical locations and within a confined area. Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 150 pounds, with assistance and to assume awkward positions. Position may involve exposure to skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
