This is a hybrid role, where 2 days from home and 3 days in an office in Sydney – we have offices in Surry Hills, just beside the Central train station or Warriewood in the northern beaches – with carparking or public transport options available.
Purpose of role:
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something new! As the Head of Medical Affairs at Blackmores, you will play a key role in building and shaping the medical affairs function within the company. You will help ensure that Blackmores leads the way in evidence-based medical marketing, supporting product credibility and enhancing our reputation as a trusted leader in natural health. This role is perfect for someone who is a strong builder, multi-tasker and eager to grow, take ownership, and make a tangible impact from the ground up.
The Head of Medical Affairs - ANZ role will report directly to the Director of Medical Affairs and will lead and support the development of the Medical Commercial strategy and operations within the ANZ region. This role necessitates people leadership, medical affairs experience, commercial acumen and collaboration to build a function, support help deliver commercial outcomes while aligning to the highest standards of best clinical practice.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in the establishment and execution of medical affairs processes to support the company’s strategic goals.
- Provide leadership in medical and scientific support for product portfolios, ensuring alignment with current research, regulatory guidelines, and ethical standards.
- Support the review and approval of medical claims, promotional materials, and educational content to ensure accuracy, compliance, and scientific integrity.
- Work collaboratively with marketing, regulatory, and commercial teams to ensure that all communications are accurate and engaging.
- Assist in the development of educational materials and training programs for healthcare professionals, consumers, and internal teams.
- Monitor and analyse emerging scientific trends and regulatory changes to inform business strategies.
- Contribute to evidence generation activities, including literature reviews and support for clinical or observational studies.
- Engage with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with medical and regulatory expectations.
Who are you?
- An existing people leader who is engaging with ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or healthcare field (e.g., pharmacy, medicine, nutrition, biomedical sciences). A higher degree (e.g., MSc, PhD) is a plus.
- Experience in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Hands-on experience in copy review and approval processes, with a strong understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks.
- Strong ability to interpret and communicate scientific data in a clear, compelling manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
- A detail-oriented, proactive mindset with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy, or a bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or higher, qualified Naturopath with industry experience.
- A registered Healthcare Professional with AHPRA.
- A background in medical affairs, or a related field, with experience in collaborating closely with the regulator e.g. TGA.
- Proven relationship-building skills and the ability to establish new links with external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational aptitude and the ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
