Ensures patients understand financial responsibilities related to healthcare services. Guides, supports, and assists patients in navigating the complexities of healthcare billing and insurance processes. Helps patients understand financial options and obligations.
- Provides comprehensive financial counseling to patients; explains insurance coverage, benefits, and out-of-pocket expenses associated with medical services.
- Verifies patients’ insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits; explains any limitations or requirements related to their specific plans
- Assists patients in exploring and applying for financial assistance programs, charity care, government-sponsored programs, and other resources to help alleviate financial burdens associated with healthcare expenses
- Assists patients with payment arrangements and coordinates with the Medicaid Eligibility Staff to assist patients with financial applications
- Visits all uninsured patients in-houses in conjunction with Medicaid Eligibility Staff Addresses patient inquiries and concerns related to billing statements, insurance claims, and financial assistance applications; provides accurate and timely resolution
- Maintains detailed and accurate records of financial counseling sessions, payment arrangements, and patient communications; ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies
- Collaborates with healthcare providers, billing departments, and other stakeholders to facilitate seamless coordination of financial processes and patient care
- Generates insurance verification and precertification reports daily and follows up with case management and insurance verification departments as appropriate
- Complies with all facility policies and procedures and HIPAA compliance
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as Excel and Word Skill in providing excellent customer service required, bilingual preferred
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in utilizing a keyboard and other office equipment including ten key, fax, printer, and copier
- Ability to organize information
- Ability to manage conflict resolution
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to engage in highly detailed conversations with patients about the financial impact and cost of care in a professional manor
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
EDUCATION:
- HS Graduate or Equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year of experience providing financial counseling in a healthcare-related field
- 2 years in Patient Access preferred
