ROLE OVERVIEW

The Capital Projects Senior Auditor is a detail-oriented professional who supports the NIA management team in coordinating and executing audit engagements within budget and timeline, managing co-source requirements, and maintaining positive relationships with audit stakeholders and partners.

 

The role involves delivering the scope audit plan on time, supporting and developing NEOM's Internal Audit Junior team members, and applying expertise in capital projects delivery.

 

REQUIREMENTS SUMMARY

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in internal audit, capital projects, or a related discipline ideally gained within multinational corporations or large-scale (GIGA) projects, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex organizational structures and diverse stakeholder environments.
  • Significant exposure to auditing, project management, project engineering, and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environments, and other project-related activities is highly desirable.
  • Proven commitment to professional development, with a strong interest in expanding expertise in Internal Audit methodologies, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Practical knowledge and prior experience using TeamMate or similar audit management software is an advantage.
  • Thorough understanding of internal audit leading practices and familiarity with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) standards.
  • Proactively contributes to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the NEOM Internal Audit (NIA) function.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with management to drive enhancements in audit tools, processes, and practices.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning, ensuring audit knowledge and technical skills remain current and relevant.
  • Effective at building relationships and enhancing the visibility and value of NIA across the NEOM Group.

 

 

ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES

 

The Capital Project Senior Auditor’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts audits in compliance with the IPPF standards, ensuring high-quality deliverables and robust documentation.
  • Investigates and analyzes root causes of audit findings, recommending improvements to internal controls, business processes, and risk management practices.
  • Demonstrates understanding of stakeholder perspectives and fosters strong, empathetic relationships across NEOM and within NIA.
  • Keeps NIA management and stakeholders informed of significant audit issues, emerging risks, and agreed action plans, ensuring timely and transparent communication throughout engagements.
  • Develops and maintains effective audit plans, including scoping, resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure timely delivery of audit engagements.
  • Drafts clear, well-written, and impactful audit reports and other deliverables, ensuring they are accurate, timely, and aligned with professional standards.
  • Performs self-assessments and quality control reviews to ensure high standards in all outputs.
  • Clearly communicating audit requirements and monitoring timelines, milestones, and quality of deliverables to manage costs and expectations effectively.
  • Develops and implements mechanisms for tracking and reporting on management’s progress in addressing audit findings, escalating significant delays as required.
  • Demonstrates technical and soft skills, including data analytics, business acumen, attention to detail, and integrity, while upholding NEOM values and the IIA Code of Ethics.
  • Proactively contributes to innovation, continuously improving audit tools, methodologies, and practices to enhance NIA’s effectiveness and reputation as a world-class function.
  • Takes ownership of personal and team development by identifying training needs, coaching team members, and promoting continuous learning and upskilling in areas like digital technology and data analytics.
  • Anticipates future trends in internal auditing and digital innovation, aligning audit practices with NEOM’s strategic objectives and contributing to the broader goals of the organization.
  • Supervises and mentors Auditors and Trainee Auditors/GrOW during engagements, providing technical guidance, feedback, and on-the-job training to build capability and ensure consistent adherence to methodology.
  • Supports NIA management in departmental initiatives, special projects, due diligence assignments, and other activities as needed to provide additional assurance and value.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in internal audit, capital projects, or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in auditing and project management/project engineering and EPC is an asset.
  • Strong experience and thorough knowledge of construction, engineering, procurement and other project, related activities, including their interfaces and interdependencies gained through professional services exposure or working with large multinational organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships across diverse cultural, professional, and hierarchical contexts, particularly within multinational or GIGA-scale project environments.
  • Strong risk assessment skills, with the ability to identify emerging risks relevant to capital projects and proactively adapt audit focus and procedures.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of financial implications of decisions in large capital projects, including cost controls, contract management, and procurement strategies.
  • Up to date with Internal Control, Audit and Risk Management best practice.
  • Strong commitment to develop and grow knowledge of Internal Audit best practices and guidelines.
  • A knowledge, understanding and previous use of TeamMate is of benefit.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Engineering, Business Administration, Law, Accounting, or a related discipline). Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Professional qualification in Internal Auditing and/or Certified Internal Audit (CIA), Chartered, Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and/or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
  • A commitment to continuing Education in auditing, project management, technology and / or construction is required.
  • Must become a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
