Reports to: Division Controller Job Status: Full-time
Texas Research International (TRI), a group of profitable privately-owned companies with 145 employees and $45M in revenue, is seeking a Senior Accountant for its subsidiary Texas Research Institute – Austin be responsible for all accounting operations and support government financial compliance programs.
This position includes full cycle accounting responsibilities and will provide support to leadership & project managers and report to the Division Controller.
The selected candidate will lead and/or support, implement, and improve TRI’s financial accounting, reporting, audits, and compliance in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Contractor Audit Agency (DCAA) rules, regulations, and policies and with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
What you will be doing:
- Prepare, review, validate the trial balance and all associated subledgers.
- Publish balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
- Prepare, verify, and submit Government FAR/DFAR required reports.
- Develop internal reports as required.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures for Texas Research Institute - Austin.
- Prepare budgets in coordination with senior management.
- Build reports as needed to support decision making of the team.
- Own and defend the annual Incurred Cost Submission and Provisional Rate Submission.
- Support the development and tracking of Annual Operating Plan.
- Identify, develop, and implement Accounting and Finance SOPs, controls, and processes.
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Respond to all DCAA audit inquiries and assist with annual financial statement audit.
- Communicate with senior management on the organization’s financial status, issues and changing regulations.
- Other accounting related projects as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience required with 3+ years FAR/DFARS compliance a must.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus.
- Intimate knowledge of government accounting and project/program requirements - FAR, DCAA, DCMA, R&D accounting, and SBIR/STTR.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Organizational and time management skills: Must be able to work within time constraints while managing multiple priorities. This position will require abundant flexibility with priorities, schedules, and dues dates. Attention to detail while seeing the overall objective and ability to multi-task with composure is mandatory.
- ERP and related software experience: Acumatica, Velixo, Concur. Not required but is a plus.
- Good oral and written communications
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment and direct subordinates clearly and effectively.
- Ability to collaborate with immediate team members and across departments.
- Initiative-taking with strong analytical aptitude.
- Strong mathematical aptitude with experience and proficiency in working with numbers.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment located in SW Austin, Texas and will be full-time on-sight.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, exempt position. Under the Regulations, Part 541, an exempt employee is one who is not entitled to the minimum wage or overtime pay protections of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Days and hours of work are [Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.] This position may work outside of normal business hours to include evenings and weekends as needed.
Travel: Less than 10% of travel is expected for this position.
