We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual for a permanent full-time 1.0 EKG Technician position within our EKG Department. Primarily 1st shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM), with rotation to 11AM-7:30PM shift, 2nd shift, and 3rd shifts as necessary. As part of the position, weekend and holiday shifts will be included in the rotation. This position will involve rotation through various departments, including the floors, Emergency Department (ED), Outpatient (OP), and Intake. Additional Responsibilities will be to apply Holter’s/Events when needed and conduct Device Checks as required.
Major Responsibilities:
- Clinical duties which include performing 12 Lead EKGs and other non-invasive cardiovascular testing
- 1)Ensure that accurate results from 12 lead computerized electrocardiograms, single channel electrocardiograms and signal average electrocardiograms are provided for cardiologists’ interpretation. a) Administer 12 lead-computerized electrocardiograms to uncovered areas as needed. b) Identify and report severe electrocardiographic abnormalities. c) Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives
- 2)Perform technical patient preparation on inpatients and outpatients for 24-hour Holter monitoring and event monitors when needed a) Provides patients with adequate instructions on the use of arrhythmia monitors to ensure optimal results.
- Non-clinical duties related to editing and maintaining EKG data.
- 1)Responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date patient files and department logs.
- 2)Perform routine computer functions for EKG management system (including daily, monthly and quarterly backup of all EKG patient files.
- 3)Maintains proper functioning of equipment (Routine maintenance) troubleshoot when appropriate. Notification of the appropriate party when equipment malfunctions.
- 4)Maintain work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
- 5)Process completed reports in accordance with established departmental procedures.
- 6)Perform routine HIS functions (i.e. ordering, charging, crediting etc…).
- 7)Maintain updated, accurate documentation of Performance Improvement monitors inclusive of department procedure logs, physician interpretation logs, equipment repair logs, radiation badges and pharmacy inventories.
Education/Experience Required:
- High School Diploma and 6 months to 1 year previous EKG/ healthcare experience or completion of an EKG certificate program with a clinical internship
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Good oral and written Communications skills Ability to perform blood Pressure readings and Identify cardiac arrhythmias
- Certified by NCCT as a NCET, or an Equivalent certification within 1 year of employment. CPR/BLS certified CPR and BLS Certified within 6 months of employment. Certification not required if the associate has completed a Bachelor or Master's degree in Exercise science/exercise Physiology with course work in EKG.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift and or move patients. Ability to work under Stressful conditions and in difficult situations. Ability to stoop, bend and stand for extended periods of time. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases. This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of age groups of patients treated (i.e. understanding child growth and development, normal Patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging). Must be able to rotate to other shifts if needed. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
