About the role
Fuel safer infrastructure with technical expertise. We’re seeking a systems-oriented Senior Asset Engineer to oversee fire safety system performance across Transurban’s Australian toll road network. This key role supports the Principal Engineer – Fire Safety and contributes to asset strategy and risk mitigation, ensuring compliance with engineering, regulatory, and concession requirements.
This is a hands-on technical position focusing on condition monitoring, diagnostics, and performance uplift across fire detection, suppression, and interfacing systems. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to keep road assets safe and resilient.
Day-to-day, you will:
Monitor and assess fire safety system condition and performance across key assets
Lead diagnostics and data-driven investigations to identify reliability risks and system improvements
Scope rectification works and contribute to Major Maintenance strategies
Execute engineering change reviews and drive operational improvements
Engage with internal stakeholders to uplift asset performance across interfaces like HVAC, SCADA, and OMCS
Lead risk assessments and contribute to the Transurban Active Risk Manager platform
Support asset knowledge integrity and process improvement through documentation and data analysis
Collaborate with contractors, OEMs and cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical challenges
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechatronics, Process or Mechanical) with 7+ years’ experience in relevant disciplines
Experience in fire safety engineering, asset management or industrial instrumentation/control
Proven ability to diagnose and uplift complex system performance across safety-critical environments
Familiarity with Australian Standards AS 4825 and AS 1851 and ISO31000 frameworks
Chartered or progressing toward Chartered Engineer status within Engineers Australia or other recognised body
Strong collaboration, documentation, and investigative skills
A Master’s in fire safety or systems engineering is highly regarded
If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
Flexible working options, including the ability to purchase up to six weeks of additional leave each year
16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), plus superannuation on unpaid leave
Career growth and leadership development opportunities
Wellbeing support—from Headspace to EAP and wellness facilities
Share offers and discounted insurance benefits
Team social events, volunteer days, and community give-back initiatives
We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.
We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not.
